Question about LG MV1604ST 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I have a MV1604ST over the range microwave oven. After I made my daughter's breakfast this morning, the fan kicked on and will not shut off. It has been running for hours. The microwave still works and heats. The instruction manual says this can happen if the temperature gets too hot around the oven, but could run for up to an hour. There is no mention of over 6 hours. Any suggestions?

There si a sensor on the bottom of those Micros that is supposed to turn the fan on when it closes, meaning it is hot, then opening when it cools back down. I expect you have a bad thermal sensor. I have very seldom found these to go bad. Another thing that can cause it is a bad door switch back feeding voltage where it is not supposed to. It will make the fan that cools the magnetron run until the bad switch is replaced.

SOURCE: Fan is always on when microwave is working

All microwaves have an internal fan. Generally, they work whenever the unit is heating. There may be a second 'overload' fan...that may be what they are referring to. If this is an over-range unit, these items have special sensors related to heat from the stove. My advice: don't mess with it if it is doing whatever else you want.

If it is working but not heating, then test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron. If all this are fine, test the control board. If turntable is not running check also the door switch.

The diodeand capacitors can be tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, evenif power is off.Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Before replacing the magnetron test also the control board.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

SOURCE: my microwave runs but it does not get hot ,t stop doesn't work

I had a similar prob with another brand microwave. It is a defect and they recommended stop using it. Since mine was out of warranty, there was nothing they would do. That night, it came on by itself for the last time with a grand finale of grand finale's firework show. I had to jump on top of the fridge to unplug it. Totally freaked me out. Hint: don't buy cheap $49.00 microwaves. Spend some money and buy a good one or you might be homeless after your house burns down.

My microwave oven model 721.85033111 vent fan stays on

You probably have a bad fan thermostat. This thermostat is supposed to turn on the vent fan if the microwave oven gets too hot (caused by cooking too much or having too many burners turned on on the range beneath the microwave oven). It should shut off in about 15 minutes after your turn off the range burners. But if it comes on for no reason, or won't turn off, then You probably have a bad fan thermostat.

My fan kicked on by itself and won't shut off

Hi,

The over the range microwave hood has a heat sensor in it. If it senses hot temperatures from cooking below it will turn the fan on. The fan will turn off once it cools down, this is to protect the microwave controls from damage.

Our microwave just stopped working one day. Wondering if the fuse is out.

If you have power to the front of the unit then most likely the fuse is good. If you have no power then it's possible that the fuse is blown. Should warn you that IF YOU open the case up to change the fuse, be very careful. there is enough voltage in there to do you some serious harm if you play with the wrong thing.

Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.

GE Microwave Profile Spacemaker Runs on its own

Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem. Whirlpool microwave, intermittent blower activity, shuts down microwave

Not clear what to explain but would look at the front control switches, commond problem, to see just play with the door open and closing to see what happen's with the fan, it's probroly not making proper contact, the other problem I can thing of is bad thermal heat sensor, there should be two or three of them, you need to know the basic what they do to test them just jump them, and try the unit and see if the problem stop to see witch termal is deffective.

Hope this help

Microwave Fan won't shut off, no display

Depending on which brand you have I would think that the Thermal switch on top of the magnetron or one of the door switches has probably given up the ghost. However, if the display does not come on you probably have a micro or Psu fault on the display panel. Not to be attempted if you are not familiar with microwaves or electronics. Please unplug before opening. Good Luck, JUS004
