Question about DISH Network ViP722 DTV Receiver / 350-Hours Video Recorder

1 Answer

I have a AVEX URC-R6 Remote controller that was working fine for almost 3 years with a DISH 722 Reciever/DVR. One morning the receiver IR would receive no signals from either the AVEX remote, or the original DISH 158926 20.0 IR controller. I contacted DISH and they helped me resync the original controller to the receiver. However now the AVEX controller doesn't work. I tried reprogramming it via the "learning mode" from the DISH remote, as I had done originally, but it will no longer accept any of the DISH remote commands. Is there any hope of salvaging my AVEX for use with the DISH receiver. Tom

I have provided instructions on how to save setting on the receiver and remote plus instructions for learning mode. I hope this helps.

Back Up Remote/Receiver Data

  • Receiver: 222k and 722k
    1. Verify that the customer has an unobstructed LOS and is within 10 feet of the receiver. The customer will need to direct the remote toward the receiver for the duration of the System Wizard setup.
    2. Press and hold the number 0 until the pop-up 380 appears on the screen.
    3. Verify that the System Wizard says the remote is configured correctly.
    4. Select Advanced on the screen.
    5. Select "Backup My Settings Now".
    6. Verify that the purple gem is displayed beside the correct selection.
    7. Select Next.
    8. Select the type of backup to be performed:
      • Full system backup
      • Back up receiver settings
      • Back up remote settings
    9. Verify that the purple gem is displayed beside the correct selection.
    10. Select Continue twice to initiate data transfer. Maintain unobstructed LOS while the green progress bar fills.
    11. Select Continue to resume programming.
  • Restore Receiver Data
  • Receiver: 222k and 722k
    1. Verify that the customer has an unobstructed LOS and is within 10 feet of the receiver. The customer will need to direct the remote toward the receiver for the duration of the System Wizard setup.
    2. Press and hold the number 0 until the pop-up 380 appears on the screen.
    3. Verify that the System Wizard says the remote is configured correctly.
    4. Select Restore on the screen.
    5. Maintain unobstructed LOS while the green progress bar fills.
    6. Select Continue to resume programming.
  • Teach Learning Commands
  • Receivers: 222k and 722k
    1. Ensure the DISH Network remote control is programmed to the desired remote address to operate the DISH Receiver.
    2. Place both the DISH Network remote and the original equipment's remote control on a flat, stable surface.
    3. On the DISH Network remote, press and hold the mode button for your equipment for about three seconds until all of the mode buttons light up, and then release it. Your selected mode button will blink.
    4. Select the type of learning you wish to perform:
      • Hybrid Mode
        1. Press and release RECALL, then hold the RECORD button for about three seconds until the mode button is lit again. The button remains lit while learning.
        2. Point the front of the original equipment's remote to face the small square (IR window) on the front left-hand side of DISH's remote. Remotes must be within 4 inches of each other.
        3. On the DISH Network remote, press the button you want to teach.
        4. On the original equipment's remote control, press and hold the button you want learned. If the DISH Network remote learns the command, the mode light blinks off and then back on. If the mode light blinks three times or remains lit, the DISH Network remote did not learn the command. You may need to press the button on the original remote several times for the DISH Network remote to learn the command.
        5. After a button has learned a command successfully, repeat steps 3 and 4 until all commands you want have been learned.
        6. To end the learning sequence:
          • Press one of the mode buttons on the DISH Network remote. This saves all of the commands for that mode and exits learning to return to normal remote control operation.
      • Normal Mode
        1. Press and hold the RECORD button for about three seconds until the mode button is lit.

Hi Robert, my name is Cheri Torres and I work on the Social Media Team at DISH. It sounds like your remote is experiencing IR(Infrared) interference from your LG TV. You can resolve this issue by converting your TV1 remote to UHF(Ultra High Frequency) instead of IR. In order to do this you will need a UHF remote, the 20.0 remote is only an IR remote. Please email me directly at Cheri.Torres@Dish.com with your account number or phone number on the account so that I can look into getting a UHF remote sent out. Thank you.

AVEX URC R6 Universal Remote Control Entry

Follow these steps to program your URC R6 Universal Remote control:

    1. Turn on the component you want to program.
    2. On the AVEX R6, press the Component button that you want to program and the SELECT [SEL] button at the same time. Hold down both buttons for 2 seconds until the TV Component LED light turns on. This signals that you are in programming mode.
    3. Enter the three digit code for your component. If this is the correct three digit number, your device will turn off.
    4. Press the component button you just programmed (in this case TV) one more time to save the code number. The component LED light will blink three times to confirm that the code was successfully stored.

    I hope that helps.

I have a Dish IR. Not sure of the model number. Uses 4 AAA batts. The problem I have is the every function seems to work fine except for the volume control. In order to change volume I have to use the TV...

It is possible that those buttons have failed, but a bit more likely the remote lost the codes for the TV itself... since almost everything the remote controls... is on the DVR. I apologize if I am guessing wrong in assuming other "TV" buttons (like INPUT) don't function either.

To re-program your remote to recognize your TV (like when the tech first set up the system) choose from the following receiver types to find the correct remote control TV codes for your Zenith.

Remote TV Codes for 722/622/612/411/222/211 Receivers
Remote TV Codes for 625/522/512/510/508/501 Receivers
Remote TV Codes for 811/381/322/311/301 Receivers

Program sony remote to operate dish vip722

The Sony RM-YD029 Remote control will work with the Dish Network VIP722 DVR HD Satellite Receiver, but the Dish Network VIP722's Primary remote address must be set to 1.

The procedure below will allow Sony RM-YD029 remote control to operate Dish VIP722.

Using the Dish Network Remote Control -
    1. Press menu 2 times to get to system info page
    2. In the system info page the primary remote address is in a white box (bubble) followed by a Green TV (1)symbol that says IR and indicates you the channel your remote control one is configured. The Sony RM-YD029 will work when this primary remote address number (in the white box) is set to 1.

If the Primary Remote Address of your VIP722 Remote control 1 is not set to channel 1, here is how to change it:

    1. While displaying the system info page, press and hold the SAT button on your dish network remote until all other modes are flashing, about 3 seconds.
    2. then press the '1' button on the numeric pad of your dish remote
    3. then press the '#' button on the numeric pad of the dish remote
    4. then press the 'record' button (red dot button - stores setting)
    5. At this point you should see a number 1 in front of the primary remote address on the dish system info page

Ensure you enter the corresponding IR code into your Sony remote control per the instructions in the manual or Sony's web site. My 722 works with Sony IR code - 01775.

    DishNetwork IR Remote Control Problem

First the only way the 6.3 will work is if it has the green number 1 on the tab facing you. Assuming this is the case you will need a new remote. This primarily is the remote for the second room away from the receiver. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
