Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have had two Mr. Slim mitsubishi air handlers in my house this is the third summer for them. For the first time, when I turned them on this year (a few days ago) they both gave off a bad musty odor. One is so bad I had to turn it off.

Hello
First the odor is probably mold and dust, change or clean your filter.

Then try spraying some coil cleaner on the fins of the inside coil,a product called simple green works well.

Spay it on and let it sit for 20 min or so,then spray some warm water over it and wash it off,let dry some and smell should go away.

I have 2 of the MSZ-A09NA Mr. Slim model in my 400 sq. ft. cottage. In the summer time my cottage is always damp feeling and the ducts drip condensation. How do I prevent this dripping?

It sounds like you have too much air conditioner vs. conditioned space. This would cause dripping and short run times. Air conditioners are designed not only to cool the house but to pull the moisture out, if it is too big and cools the area too fast the outside of the ducts will begin to collect condensation like the outside of a cold glass of water.

It sounds as if this water is coming from your air handler, correct? If this is the case, your drain tube is clogged or not draining properly. You could drain the condensate tube into a bucket temporarily, but this needs to be repaired properly.
