Assuming there's a good input from the battery or the charger. If there's no activity, bios screen or boot screen. Then you motherboard has probably failed.

    What turns on?

Does everything seem to work properly except there's nothing on the screen. Does it appear to boot up ie the HDD led flickers then settles after a few minutes.

If so, its booting ok there's just no display.

You can check the display by connecting another monitor to your laptop via the VGA port and using the Fn and Screen switch key to switch between monitors. If the slave monitor works.
Then your graphics card/chip is good. Its a display problem.

Boot it up and look very carefully at the screen, can you see the various boot logo's but very dimly. If so your inverter has failed or become disconnected. They can be replaced.

If no, your screen has failed or become disconnected. You're now into the realms of taking your laptop apart to check the connections.

Normally you'd start at the plate between the keyboard and the screen hinges, it could be screwed and/or clipped into place. If you don't know what you're up to, you could break it.
But its a case of removing that plate and checking any ribbon connectors underneath. If they're home and good, you're back to your screen / inverter problem and need a replacement.

Need to clear the password for the bios.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your Toshiba Satellite laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

I restarted my Toshiba satellite a305 and now it won't boot up or go into safe mode. It comes to the start up screen that says press f2 for setup f12 for boot manager. It will let me go into setup and boot...

If it won't let you go to safe mode, then there's something that the BIOS(setup) or Boot Manager needs before starting the operating system(Windows Vista). You should have a Toshiba Recovery Disk which will fix this . The disk will not touch any of your current files and data,so don't worry about that.

How to remove bios battery from a satellite a305 s6898

Heres a step-by-step guide on disassembling a Satellite A305. You should find access to the bios battery somewhere along the lines of this tutorial.

Remember to be very careful, and make sure to ground yourself or wear an anti-static wristband because the parts you're gonna be dealing with are very electrically sensitive.

Remove Bios Password satellite A305-s6872

If you cannot find the reset pins try to find the CMOS 3V battery, it is usually located under the keyboard, and disconnect it. remove the computer battery and then start the computer. When you boot it should ask you for the time and date. At this point shut down and plug the CMOS battery back in and reinstall the computer battery. This time when it ask for the time and date go ahead and enter it and the rest of the bios should be set to default.
