You probably didn't damage it, it sounds like you may have knocked loose the thermal printing portion (which is the most important part). There is no easy way for you to repair this but Dymo will usually do it for free under warranty. Their phone number is:

I would suggest reinstalling the driver.
First disconnect the label writer, then go to :
Scroll down and you will see your model number and download the drivers. Then run the installation again and it should prompt you to connect the label writer, which should fix the problem
If not also try reinstalling the "Label Software Application" listed on the same page as well.

Here is a link to the manual:
You will need Adobe Reader installed to view the PDF, try to open it, if it doesn't work, go to adobe.com and download the free Adobe Reader. If you don't want to do that and cannot open the link above, here is one that doesn't need Adobe, but it isn't formatted as nicely:

I know this is too late for the psalter29, but here it is for others with the question. This piece is a cleaning tool. It is stored in the lid to the tape door. There is a small bar in the lid. The slot on the tool slides over the bar in the lid. The soft yellow pad should push down on the tape when the lid is closed. It is a cleaning tool for the print head. The user guide says "gently wipe the pad across the print head". The device should still work without the tool.

Tips for a great answer:
Changing the Font
Six font are available for your labels:
Arial Narrow, Arial Normal, Arial Wide, Times
New Roman, One Stroke and Frankfurter.
When you specify a font size, that size applies
to all characters on current page.
To set the font
1. Press the Font key.
2. Use the arrow keys to move to the desired
font and then press OK.
Also here the link to the manual for further instructions.
