There isn't a way to "disable" any keys on a keyboard. In most cases the Fn key is in the lower corner of a keyboard and is hard to press unless intended.

my other laptop as this option in the bios to disable the Fn Key so when i press the Fn key it dos'nt do anything but for some reason The phillips Freevents x series as'nt got this option in bios

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2011

Bios differs from computer to computer, and if they are even one model apart from each other, the bios options won't be the same. I have 2 Dell Studio 15 laptops, same year, model and build, but they have different bios. So chances are the laptop you are trying to disable the Fn keys on does not support that function.

I'm trying to use the num lock to input numbers, but the function doesn't work unless I have num lock activated and also have the fn key constantly pressed. How can I fix this problem? Once I activate...

On some models, pressing Fn and F4 key will disable/enable Num lock on latitude.

On some other Dell laptops, a BIOS setup menu selection must be made when turning on the laptop to enable it to work.

How to turn on num lock of asus netbook

It depends on notebook model. There is a key on keyboard which allow you to turn num lock on or off. Sometimes "Num Lock" or "Num LK" has blue, red or other color. In this case PRESS "Fn" KEY FIRST, HOLD IT AND THEN PRESS "Num Lock" KEY. For detail instructions write your laptop model.

ASUS Q501L Notebook PC, how do I keep or even start the numbers lock keypad? Keep pressing num lk key but nothing happens.

Admittedly, the placement of the "END" key is odd in the location where the "NUM LOCK" key would normally be. However, if you look at that key closely you will note that there is a second function to it. Hold down the "fn" key and press the "End/num lk" key and the numbers will be turned on.

For some reason the number lock is on my keyboard - i can*t figure out howto unlock it. i have to keep the fn key down in order to type the letters on the right hand side. how do i unlock/ thanks in...

Please follow the below instruction to fix your problem.
Press 2 keys at the same time: "FN" (next to the CTRL key, lower-left of the keyboard) and "num lk", which is the upper-right of the keyboard (it is on the same key as "scroll", and is next to "F12"). This will either turn on or turn off the "Num Lock" function. Both the "FN" and "num lk" are enclosed in a small rectangle. They are easy to see.
Hope the above information will be helpful to you. Thank you. Have a good day.

Unlock numeric key pad on lap top

your laptop should have a blue FN key (Function) that will work in conjunction with other blue keys on teh keyboard. most laptops this is located in the lower left, next to the ctrl key. Look to the right top on your keyboard for a one labeled numlk. hold down teh left FN key and tap the right num lk key and you just turned off the numbers lock.

There is another option that is a little more intense - if interested let me know that laptop type you have.

Fn key wont turn off

OK, I've found a soliution! :) I've been diging the internet and many people are having the same problem, so it is a common problem however the soliution is very simple (in my case). The thing is that laptops does not has a saparated Num Pad, and numbers can be found on keys under F1-F12 row or/and (active with Fn key) on alphabetic keys uiopjkl;m/ and so on. But if there is a NumLk key on your keyboard, you can lock the Num Pad on alphabetic keys. Then you have to hold Fn key pressed to write letters.  Find the NumLk key and try to turn off the Num Pad :)
On my laptop (Acer extensa 5120) NumLk key is on F11 and active when Fn is depressed.
Hope this wil help :)
