These printers read an electronic ship on the cartridge to track toner levels. Sometimes these chips do fail. Try putting your old cartridge back in and if it is recognized then the fault is with the new cartridge and I would suggest you get ahold of the people that sold it to you and get them to replace it.

Cartridge not recognised

Your cartridge is most likely a refill or off brand.
Your printer won't recognize it.

My Lexmark 4350 wont recognise a new colour cartridge why?

Please make sure the back plate is clean inside your printer. That the place where to contact points sits. Check the back of the cartridge aswell to insure all contacts are clean. If it still comes up with the error change the cartridge otherwise its a board or caridge wich you cant get new spares for.

I just refilled my black ink cartridge. But the ink is still not recognised. Every time I hit print it just shows that the ink can't be recognised. What shall I do?

If you refilled the cartridge, most likely the wafer chip on the ink cartridge is a self setting chip. What this means is once the ink runs out one time, the chip will either short or change a pattern to allow the cartridge to never work again (so you have to go out and buy their new ink) Some places sell a chip reset, or you can replace it will an OEM black ink.

If this all fails, than the print head (the carriage the ink sits in) is faulty

Have changed both ink cartridges but is still showing out of ink

Did you change the cartridges with proper hp ones? or are they refilled by a company such as cartridgeworld or whatever?
If they are refilled ones then thats your problem, it seems like good savings using these companies but invariably there are problems. If you take them back and say they are not recognised they should refill again for you though.

Also, The ink cartridges have a chip on them, usually gold and near the printhead, make sure its not dirty as the printer needs to recognise it.

Finally, if they are proper HP cartridges, and the chip area is not dirty, they it could be an issue with your printer, you may have knocked the printhead scanner when taking then out / putting them in. Fiddle around delicately putting them in and it should eventually pick them up. Also sometimes the printer takes a couple of prints before it realises they are full.

HP 4280 - new black refilled cartridge not recognised

hi steve... the solution to your problem is a costly one. the printer keeps in memory 2 cartidges for colour and 2 for black, when a third is placed in the printer the first one is deleted out of memory same for the colouredand same for the black... therefore you need 3 cartridges each to do the trick.
eg. if you want to use colour cartridge #2 then 1st place colour nuber 1 or 3, then turn it on let it reads, then open door and place in colour number 3 or 1 let it read, then take out and place in coulur number 2 and it will see it as new

Canon MP510 wont recognise cartridges

Using replacement cartridges that come without a chip seems to be the problem I had with the Canon Pixma 510 printer they are cheaper
but if they do not show the ink levels then its inconvienent so I have but Canon products with a chip and they work perfectly.
