I believe your car is telling you there is no oil pressure. If this is correct, yes it is dangerous for you to drive the car. Please check the oil dip stick to insure there is oil in your engine. If there is no oil or if the oil is low, add oil until the level is showing in the cross hatch area of the dip stick. If the oil is at the proper level already, two things: Thing one, your oil pump is not pumping and not providing the lubrication your engine requires, or two: your oil sensor is not sensing correctly and sending the wrong message. If this were my car, I would presume the car oil sensor is correct - that the oil pump is not pumping.
If there is no oil circulating, you will quickly destroy your engine. My advice is if there is oil in the car and the sensor is telling you to stop the car, have your mechanic tow your vehicle to his or her shop for repair. The Tow will cost you a few bucks ... destroying the engine will cost you at least $2000.00 US (dont say where you are located please).

the oil level is good, it's darker than usual but I do have enough inside the engine. So your guess is that the oil pump is not working...how much should I expect to pay for this part??
This is a shot in the dark ... I am not a VW mechanic and I don't know the prevailing shop rate where you are located. I would expect to pay around $500.00 for this repair in my area. The pump probably costs $125.00 ... I am guessing.

Yes, you are in danger of ruining your motor.. check your oil by pulling out the dipstick, wiping the oil of the end of the dipstick and replace it fully down again into the dipstick tube. Pull it out again and check the level of the oil. If it is low, add oil before driving. If it does not show on the dipstick, add 1 quart at time and check the level each time before adding more, until it is to the correct level marked in the dipstick
