Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

Lost files I suspect that my Aspire 5101 has the wrong drive identified as I appear to have lost all the files in My Documents. The drive has a strange ident in the BIOS setup. Can the drive be auto detected?

I have got the same problem where I lost everything. The computer does not boot all the time especaily when it is cold. Once started it seems to work ok. Save some dinero, I thought it was the hard drive so I bought another one and guess what, it didn't fix the problem. I tried all the updates, even the BIOS update and it doesn't work. One thin I noticed, when I go to the BIOS, it doesn't have my DVD rom drive on it for some reason. Seems to disappear. I contacted Acer tech support and they said I got a hardware issue but would not go any further than that.

If you forgot your BIOS password. see this... http://www.wikihow.com/Break-a-BIOS-Password
If you forgot your windows Account Login password, the following page is a good description of your choices... http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/tp/find-lost-windows-passwords.htm
Also, check out... http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

If the above does not work, and you have important files that you don't want to lose, you could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a "USB Hard Drive Adapter" (available fairly cheap online) to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.
Good luck.

Acer recovery download

Did you lose just the files that you saved on the hard drive? Or did you lose all of the programs and files? Either way you needed to make your own recovery disk before you lost the information. It is too late to get a recovery disk made after you lost everything. You will have to purchase the programs (software such as windows 7) again. If you just lost just what you saved in the files (pictures, resume, etc.), then it is gone forever.

Aspire one D255E keeps saying no bootable device

It may be that your hard drive is failing, or has failed. If you're lucky, it could just be that the drive has dislodged from its connection, but I suspect you may need to have your hard drive replaced and all your software reloaded.

If the hard drive has failed, you may have lost any data you had on there.

Unmountable boot volume acer 3000 aspire

Unmountable boot volume is Hard Disk Partition lost.
There are two partition on hard disk, one is NTFS & FAT32, if this two partition are damage or lost, then you have lost your data also.
Reformat on it are the best way result and put new windows system.

You can recover your pictures after reformat by using a program RECOVERMYFILES, this program even when your windows system got reformatted can recover all of it.

Good luck!

Lost files

it depends if you formatted the hard drive you would probably... if you didn't you are lucky because you can probably find most of your old files under C:\documents and settings

if you did indeed format your hard drive, you may have to spend hundreds if not thousands on data recovery, im sorry that as far as that goes im not sure what company or service can guarantee your files back, i don't know which to refer you to.

Good luck!

Acer aspire 3610 with drive c(full) and drive d(empty)

Right click on My Documents and select Properties.
Select Move.
Navigate to your D: drive. Select the drive letter and then click "Make New Folder." Enter "My Documents" as the folder name and hit Enter and then OK. Windows will then ask you whether you want to move your documents. Click Yes.
All the space the My Documents folder was taking up on C: is now empty and you will notice no difference in the way you work. Anything that belongs in My Documents will now automatically go to My Documents on D:
Note: You may not want to do the next part if you need a lot of space for Pictures and Music.
To get even more space on C:, right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab and then Settings in the Performance section.
In Performance Options click on the Advanced tab
In the Virtual Memory section click on Change
Select the D: drive and set it to be the same as the settings on C:
Now change the settings on C: to have a page file of 0
If you are someone who likes to keep old email on file, those files can also be moved.
