One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
also
click start control panel,display,desktop you can select a different desktop from the drop down list
or a browse button where you can select different pictures this may vary depending on your operating system
also settings you can change the settings for more or less pixels or from the drop down list pick the appropriate level of color range or troubleshoot also select advanced then general dpi normal size,larger size or custom settings
always click APPLY after making any changes
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scoll to scroll to monitors + to expand plug and play monitor you might see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? or red x you will have to update the driver right click where you have options to update driver
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it or you could download

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio,volume,advanced,speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand,system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable)

I have an Acer Aspire 3100 and I can't seem to get


Go to My Computer, then System Properties, then Device Manager. In the list of hardware you'll see DVD/CD in the list. Double click that. It will probably say "This Device is working properly". (Axiom: All Computers Lie) Find the Troubleshooting button and click on it and begin the process of narrowing down the problem by answering each question that most closely describes your problem. Often you will be led to a Microsoft automated Fixit application that will end your problem.

Can't get Vista to restart


Start windows, befor Ram loads hit F8 / F9 / F11 so u can acces to Boot Menu
then Hit Safe Mode it will loads windows but with restricted opcions then go to Start menu --> execut or Go
and then type CHKDSK and reboot
if it doesnt work ull have to restore your system
ull have to boot on safe mode and do this it will work 100/100

Run problem applications in Compatibility Mode if system instability occurs after installing a particular application. To run the Program Compatibility Wizard:

Use Add or Remove Programsto uninstall a problem application if the system instability hasoccurred immediately after a new application has been installed andrunning the program in Compatibility Mode hasn't helped. AlthoughSystem Restore will remove the application if you choose to apply it,it is better to remove the offending application from Control Panel. Toopen Add or Remove Programs:
1.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2.
Click the program you want to remove, and then click Change/Remove.
If the system's instability has occurred immediately after a new device driver is installed, use the Device Driver Rollback feature instead of System Restore. To roll back to an earlier driver:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.
On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
3.
In the Device Manager dialog box, double-click the hardware that uses the driver in question.
4.
In the device Properties dialog box, on the Driver tab, click Roll Back Driver.

Work through the Windows XP troubleshooters in the Help and Support Center. To open a troubleshooter:

Click Start, and then click Help and Support.

Under Troubleshooting problems in the right pane, click List of troubleshooters, and then start a troubleshooter by clicking the name in the left column of the table.
If,after trying these options the computer is still unstable, opt forSystem Restore. You'll want to save this option for last because thechanges made to your computer are more comprehensive than if you simplyuninstall a program or rollback a device driver.
Use System RestoreAfteryou've decided to use System Restore to revert your system to aprevious state, start the System Restore Wizard and follow the prompts.To use the System Restore Wizard, make sure you're logged on as anadministrator, and then follow these steps:
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.

Sound device


Go to your device manager list, right-click my computer icon on the desktop then go to properties. Go to hardware tab, click device manager, go and click "sound and video controllers" to see if anything is with a yellow question mark, if there is you need to uninstall the one with the question mark, if not close that window and proceed to right-clicking the volume or speaker icon on your tray (near the system clock on the task bar), right-click and select "adjust audio properties", go to audio tab and select the right audio device from the list you can also see there other playback properties you can try and troubleshoot from there...
