There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for 5 mins, then try.

If you are handy with a soldering iron (or even if you aren't) and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

I have a sanyo dp46848 TV that turned off and won't turn on. There's no lights, sound nothing. What happened

Did you have a power surge or the lights went out? Many times this will cause the switching power supply to fail. Very easy to change out. If you are good with electronic you can take a shot at replacing blown parts, mainly electrolytic caps or maybe burned diodes. Contact Jimmys tv repair if in USA. They carry almost all parts.

What causes the sanyo DP42740 plasma tvs green power light turn on and off?

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it.This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times.Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here.It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy.

Why doe's my sanyo 50'' plasma tv turns itself off

You have a fault on your HV switching supply Board and/or your Vertical or Horizontal control boards. The stk 917-811A x2 (Power Modules) of them could be Faulty. You need to take your set to a Professional Tech. work shop. The cause normally is Mains Voltage surges and erratic mains supply inputs.

Sounds like a power supply regulator board fault. If the supply output from it is not normal, this kind of fault can occur. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Timeslide / Flipcard, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. Show pic about 5 minutes then i hear sound, but no pic

There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance. The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on, if there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, and use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up; if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault. It can also be related to WEAK ELECTROLYTIC capacitors as the value can reduce in time. Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections.

Hi John,
This is an indication of an out of regulation in the power supply section. This is caused by leaky capacitor on that section. Check your power supply for bulged electrolytic capacitor and replaced it with new one, this will fix your problem. Also find if there's a dry joints, make some re-soldering.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day!
