Question about Advent Netbook

I can't get the Notebook to recognise that a mouse has been plugged into the mouse port. I have found out how to disable the touch keypad FN and F9 but not how to enable the mouse.

You may need to refresh the USB ports. Follow the instructions below. You do not have to disable the touchpad to use an external mouse.

Follow the steps given below to refresh USB ports.

1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

7. Shut down the computer.

CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.

8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.

The above steps will refresh the USB ports.

Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external usb hard disk...usb hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.

Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main usb devices at the rear end usb port, as they require more power to initiate.

How can I disable the trackpad to only use an external mouse? Toshiba laptop (Satellite)

For most Toshiba laptops, you should be able to hit FN+F9, and it will disable the touch pad. If that doesn't work, go to your Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Mouse, and disable it there. Hope this helps!

----- control panel - mouse - see if touch pad disabled there ----- have a look in the bios/setup and see if the touch pad is disabled there, as the PC boots - you should see which key to use to enter the bios/setup F2, F10, DEL KEY are often used ----- On some machines a combination of FN and F key can disable/enable the touch pad - F7 or F9 ----- If you point the mouse to the top of the screen you may get a menu dropdown, which will also tell which key to use to disable/enable the touchpad ----- control panel>system>{vista}lefthand side device manger or {XP}hardware>Device Manager>Mouse and other pointing devices>Touchpad>highlight touchpad and right click, Properties, may be an option here to Disable/enable,

I have an Asus K60 Laptop.I can not figure out how to turn off the touch pad, as I am using a wireless external mouse instead of the touchpad on the laptop.Any clues?

Did you try the FN key and F9...
That is what they say to disable your touchpad

You have a function key which is called Fn That key allows you to use the functions on the F series keys

So Fn then F9 should do the trick

My mouse pad does not work nor does USB cable

Has the mouse lock been applied.
Press and hold the "FN" key and then press "F9" this should unlock the mouse and touch pad.
Failing that try updating the drivers for both using the device manager as I have found that recent updates have disabled my touch pad and I have rolled back the drivers to the previous ones.

Mouse pad frozen

Hi,
Please try the following to fix the problem,
1.) Did we accidently press the button to 'enable/Disable' the touch pad/mouse?, for most of the machines its fn-f9.
2.) Try plugging in an external mouse to see if you can get back your mouse functionality.
3.) There can be a problem with the touch pad, try reinstalling the drivers again.

Please let us know if that was helpful enough.
Good Luck & Thanks
Shiv.
