Question about Gateway E-2100-F2 PC Desktop
It IS probably possible to get your data off the drive. Even before you try to use any sort of recovery disk to reload Windows, you should try to pull the important data off the drive. You can pull the drive out and use something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
plug your drive into another computer using the adapter to get the data off of it...and TEST the data to make sure it opens properly after you copy it over. You don't want to have a corrupted backup. Once you have the data backed up and tested, you need to find a copy of Windows to reload on your machine. I am sure it's possible to repair your Windows installation and remove the virus, but really it's probably not worth it.....You are most likely better off to just install a fresh copy of Windows and get rid of everything and start over from scratch. It's not really as daunting as it sounds as long as you have your data backed up you are in good shape. To reinstall Windows you can use articles found here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall
Good luck...and try to keep backups of your data...always have at least 2 copies that are not on the same drive and not in the same computer.
