Question about Mitsubishi WD-73833 73" HDTV

3 Answers

I have two small super bright white spots on the screen of my Mitsubishi WD-73833 and was advised by someone that it was a light engine problem. I have searched for hours and can't find any info on where to purchase a new "light engine" or EVEN IF this is the correct problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a bunch!!!

You do not need the entire light engine replaced. That would be a really expensive fix(about 1000$). All you need is a new DMD board. I can help you find a replacement if you are willing to fix it yourself and give you instructions to replace it

    Around 300-350, thats about 1/3rd of the cost of a light-engine.

Your tv is a DLP projection system. This is how it works:
1 - a bulb generates white light;
2 - this light is concentrated on a DMD chip - this chip is covered in 2 million tiny mirrors that can be tilted individually : more they are tilted less light they reflect so the chip effectively generates a black/white image that is reflected to
3 - an rotating wheel with colored sectors - as it rotates it colors the b/w image, making it whole;
All this - the bulb, the DMD, the color wheel and its joining elements - form the light engine.
4 - the final image passes thru an set of lenses assembled in an optical engine that expand and project it on a screen.
If you see a bright white point it means that the tiny mirror from the DMD chip corresponding to it is no longer tilting - a defect in the DMD chip. It cannot be repaired, it will only get worse, so the only option is to replace the DMD chip. Ideally you should be able to replace just the chip, but i couldn't find it online . All i could find was an entire light engine

I have White and black dots on the screen of my Mitsubishi wd-73833 tv.

I developed white spots on the screen of my Mitsubishi WD-57734 in increasing numbers over days and weeks. I called a repair service who quoted me $1500 to replace the light engine. He suggested I call Mitsubishi Customer relations at 800-332-2119 option 5 which i did. To make a long story short after several conversations with them they agreed to replace the part for free if I picked up the labor (Would have been less conversations if I had the original purchase receipt). Instead of $1500 I paid $250. The tv was only 3.5 years old. Perseverance paid off.

Bright white spots on mitsubishi wd-73833 I just replaced the lamp and now these bright white spots have started to appear!

This unit uses a DLP (digital light processor) chip and if this starts to fail then you will get spots appearing on the screen. The DLP chip will need to be replaced.
