Question about Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook
Check the power supply with an ohm meter to see if it's getting the proper output to the machine. Just because the light on the supply is working, doesn't mean that it's putting out the power to run the machine. If the output checks good, then remove the battery and try starting. Dell batteries are notorious for causing a no start. If the problem persists, then you have a failed component on the motherboard, most likely the power management system. This will need to be diagnosed by a professional, in order to track down the exact problem component and fixed.
