I have had this problem which then developed into the unit going into PROTECT mode. This is typically caused by the relays and perhaps some other components developing dry joints over time. I had a professional refresh the solder joints and it works perfectly now

Check your speaker polarity. Make sure the plus and minus of all 4 speakers are the same, otherwise they will cancel its other out.

I have the following setup: AV Receiver: Pioneer

Very common problem with today's receivers. Receivers made today don't have a true preamp section in the amplifier and do not amplify the sound to the extent of an older receiver. I have large 15" front speakers on my system, and have stuck with my 15 year old receiver just because I know that a new receiver will not have the power to drive them well. Many of the newer receivers need to be turned up to 50-60% before you can even hear anything from the speakers.

I have the sony str-da4400es iv had it since november 08 and all of a sudden my speakers started making a fuzzy noise all the time even during movies

Many things can be happening to cause this noise: loose connections; ground loops; speaker cables smashed, etc. Disconnect all sources and speakers, clean plugs and connectors, make firm connections, be sure of the energy quality at your home. Most sound noises come from fluctuations on voltage and energy. Consider to invest on a power conditioner. Good Luck.

I don't get any front display or any sound when turned on.

Do you hear any clicks? If not, the standby transformer or related circuitry is bad. If you hear 1 relay click...the audio output section is most likely the problem. The first click you hear is the main power relay...and should see display.. the second relay click is the protection circuit relay engaging to let audio to your speakers...if the second click is not heard (it should occur in 3 to 5 seconds) there are shorted output transistors or a shorted output IC trying to blow your speakers with 50 to 75 volts dc. The protection circuit monitors the speaker lines for voltage. They should always read milli-volts only...not even 1 volt.Anyway, good luck

My Sony STR-DG500 wont turn on just clicks once and nothing.

Sounds like faulty psu (pwer suply unit) Amp is going into protection mode. Disconnected all speaker and av wires (only power) turn up volume and see if it stays on. If not psu, sounboard or volume function faulty. If on, connect one speaker L or R. Go to tuner mode to tuned radio station an listen for sounds. If on, connect speakers and av cables one by one and test each one on its own until amp switches off, Investigate from there were problem is. Make sure speakerwires is not shorting out.

I have a Sony STR-DE635. It has a switch on the front for speakers A, B, and A+B. Normal. When I am on speaker A only, it works fine. B does not work. A+B works, but only through the A speakers. Now,...

Check for bad solder connections on the speaker switch or where the speaker switch board connects to another board. Not an uncommon problem with some Sony receivers.

Sony STR-DE945 Clicking Noise Sound Cutting Out

I had the same problem, I realized it was due to bad solder joints in the relays that physically turn the signal on and off to the speakers. There are relays for each speaker and a main relay for the mute/headphone. The click you hear is the relay disengaging. the relays look like narrow boxes about an inch high. If you open up the amplifier, try gently pushing on the top of the relays, if they click you know you have a bad solder joint. Remove the board, turn it upside down and re-solder the relays.

the following video shows what a relay is, and another problem can be that it is dirty, if so follow the instructions in the video to clean it.

Sony STR DB-930 Receiver jumping into protector mode

I went through the amp/receiver and used small star washers on all the grounding screws I could find including the one securing the transformer, cleaned dust off all circuit boards, checked output transistors and fuses, all OK.

Re Assembled unit and it worked OK.

I will buy a fan and fan it to avoid sourcing heatsinks for the previusly suggested IC's.

Thanks for the technical help, sure solved my problem.

Regards

Darryl.
