That is a security configuration on HP Laptops, depending on the way they blink is the problem your machine has.

Here is the web page where this info is posted, in case you need more info, hope this helps you to determain.

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008. On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes. The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved. Battery power LED blinks The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition. Battery Power LED Component Tested Error Condition Battery power LED off, and Caps Lock/Num Lock off Battery or AC Adapter AC adapter not connected or failure

Battery low charge or failure Battery power LED blinking Battery Insufficient charge on the battery When new computer is used for first time, the white LED light for the AC power connector blinks. Battery is still in "Shipping Mode", the light continues to blink even when AC power is connected.

To resolve, turn off notebook, connect AC power and allow battery to charge for at least 30 minutes, then start computer. LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help. There are three lights on the upper right hand side of the keyboard. I know number lock and caps lock, what is the third light and what keys did i hit that made it go on? How do I turn it off?

The third light on your keyboard is normally the scroll lock, the key to enable/disable this function is the Scroll Lock key which is located above the Home key.

I need to lock my fn key but i have been looking online at different ways, such as: using the num lock key and looking for the scroll lock(which i dont think i have on this keyboard), and a fn lock key...

For a start, the user guide shows the scroll lock as being F5 The Num lock key is above the centre of the Numbers key pad
I wonder why you need to lock the Fn Key - except to stop others accessing the useful functions on your keyboard...
The User guide/Notebook tour can be downloaded from here...

The light thats a lock with the letter a starts blinking and it wont boot up. how do i fix this

The blinking light is just a status for the caps light. If the unit does not power on or boot , you may have
A) a low or bad battery, Take the battery out and try to power up just by plugging the unit into the outlet.

B) If that does not work, You may have a loose DC connector on the system board. Unplug the plug from the outlet, then slightly wiggle the connector at the back of the laptopwhere the adapter plugs in. If it moves , the connector is loose on the MLB.

The blue lights located above the keyboard indicate the following:
about27.jpg
Turns on when the numeric keypad is enabled.
about28.jpg
Turns on when the uppercase letter (caps lock) function is enabled.
about29.jpg
Turns on when the scroll lock function is enabled.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Computer locked

there are combinations of function or "hot keys" for enabling or disabling these functions. The NuLk is a combo of the functin key and the NumLk key pressed simultaneously. The scroll lock is the one keeping your mouse from working properly. I'm not familiar with your particular unit to advise which keys are necessary to disable Scroll lock, but they should be marked. Also, some notebooks have a switch to disable the mousepad...Usually indicated by a light located above the pad itself. Good luck Harvester3
