If the heatsink has fallen because the plastic that holds the heatsink chipped, you can use a plastic glue to place it back. Make sure that you have cleaned the surface of the heatsink that touches the cpu off it's thermal grease before putting it back. Replace the thermal grease with a new coat to make sure proper heat transfer occurs. Check out some videos on you tube on how to apply the thermal grease properly for guidance.

Just don't forget the thermal paste before installing it.

Replacement for a larger heatsink fan for Emachines E4028

You should be able to replace the heatsink fairly easily as long as you have a heatsink suited to your CPU for Eg : if you have an LGA 1155 CPU a 1155 or 1156 heatsink will fit but if you try to fit any other sort it may fit but will not be as effective. You should be able to find a quality replacement part from any good computer shop or if you are very cluey and know exactly what you need you may even find it cheaper on ebay or the like. Please note : the larger the heatsink the larger the fan must be to dissipate the heat. I hope this helps.

Acer aspire 5741 overheating then it shuts off

heck to see if the fan is working, if not replace it.If the fan is working and spinning freely, then clean the vents and remove any dust/lint.You may need to remove the fan/heatsink off the CPU and clean off the old heatsink compound and replace it with fresh heatsink compound and reinstall the fan/heatsink.
When using the laptop, make sure it is on a firm flat surface and none of the vents are obstructed.

Is it possible fit replacement heatsink backplate?

Hi: The plastic heatsink mounts are available online, especially on ebay, and pay close attention to the type you have, the 2 hole mount. Another good option is to purchase aftermarket coolers, such as from Antec, Zalman or Cooler master. Every one I bought, came with the fan, heatsink, and mount.

I need to replace the cooling fan and heatsink on my Gateway ML6720. I'm having trouble finding the part. If I can find it, can you tell me how to replace it?

The best thing you can do is replace the fan itself with a like kind of shape and size. I usually do this by going to a computer store with the old fan and matching it up with the ones they have in stock, or measure the size in milimeters and buy one on line. The fan is held on by 4 screws and it is much easier than trying to remove the heat-sink and take the chance of damaging the motherboard. You can just screw the new fan to the old heat-sink and you are done, plug it in and insure the fan is blowing in the right direction and you are done. Good Luck, RAC

Loose heatsink on dell dimension 1100

I'd seize the opportunity to get a new cheap cooler, as it can also extend the life of the PC.

If not you're in for either some DIY soldering or asking Dell for another clip.

ASUS NCT-d

Hi, have you tried removing the CPU and using a Air Jet Spray can to clean all contact pins and pin holes? The problem sounds like a loose chip. So also check all on board chips are seated, including RAM chips. Air spray can be bought from most Computer stores. Goodluck mistyman
