Thanks for using FixYa! I will attempt to do a tutorial that is in layman's step by step terms so bare with me here. First off you have an audio and video on your laptop and either an HDMI or DVI or S-VIDEO hookup for Video. Next you have to determine which is the best connection you can have for your audio and video needs. Once you have determined which cable you will use from the laptop to the back of the TV the best one I use for me anyway is HDMI cable. Your laptop has to have either an VGA or as described above I cannot see it so I cannot tell you which one.
Now plug in the HDMI cable to the HDMI on the back or side of your TV from the laptop. Now you will have to have an audio with the standard stereo pin with RCA jacks usually one White wire and one Red one small pin line in to laptop I have provided a couple of pictures with links to the cables so you can see what they are. This is 3 examples you can start with. Since I cannot tell you what you need because I cannot see your laptop. how to connect my laptop - jcrowder0027_4.jpgjcrowder0027_5.jpg jcrowder0027_6.jpg
Now when you get ready after hooking up with the way that you wish to do this make sure that you set your video card to monitor two the axillary one this will be the TV situation. I hope that this assisted you with the idea of it. If you need cables check out the place where I get them. Click Here Thanks for using FixYa! Do not forget to place a positive vote for me if I assisted you. John

Stop by a Best Buy store and talk to their in house guys, they will set you up with the correct cables needed, it's pretty easy once you have the cables.

CONNECTING MY LAPTOP TO THE HOME THEATRE VIA HDMI

You need to press the FUNCTION key or FN key. While holding down that key, Press one of the F keys on top. The F key will have a picture of a monitor on it. Usually F4 or F10 key. So hold down the FUNCTION key and press that F key. That will display your laptop on the TV. You can press it a few time to switch between your laptop display or both.

I have F&D home theatre i want to connect it to laptop

go to radio shack or walmart . get a cable that has an 1/8th inch stereo plug on one end and two (male) rca plugs on the other end.
make sure your volume is not all the way up on either the computer or the stereo.
plug the 1/8 inch plug into your "speaker or headphone" jack on the laptop.
plug the red and white (male) rca plugs into the auxilary or cd "IN" on the home theatre.
Power up the stereo, make your source on the home theatre the Auxilary or CD, whichever you used to plug the RCA's into.
now you should hear anything from the laptop through the home theatre.
Regards..

I want to hookup my laptop with my 7.1 Onkyo HTR540 home theatre, onkyo has optical input, i am confused how to hookup with my laptop which also has HDMI port but my home theatre does not have HDMI Port

If you have a plasma, or otherwise HDTV display, what you would do is send you information in two different directions.

Connect the video directly to the display. Connect the audio through your home theater, and set both units accordingly.

TV Audio won't come through the Home Theatre Speakers

why it doesn't come. just connect the RCA cable to the output pins of TV and connect them to the input female jacks of home theatre receiver. or if the TV has optical out and the home theatre reciever had optical in. thats the best option. just connect one optical cable to enjoy the 5.1 sound. tell me clear problem if u r nt solved.

How do I connect my laptop to my home theatre system?

The best idea would be to get an audio interface, providing that your home theatre has an IN such as left and right phono. hese can be found for around 60 GBP. A chaeper alternative would be to buy and adapter which splits headphone to phono although an audio interface would allow you to send sound from you theatre in to your laptop as well.
