Either the camera or the vcr is dirty. Try running a cleaning cassette through both, but bare in mind that tapes which were recorded while the camera was dirty will ALWAYS look like that. Forever.

Copying home made video from sony Hi8 tapes to Sony DV mini tapes

Sony DCR-HC21 has a multi-AV in, your Hi-8 should have a mini (4 band) to multi AV out. The cable would look like a stereo headphone cable on one end with thre RDA type plugs on the other end; red, white, yellow. The mulit in on the DV would probabaly be the same type connector. Youd have to use a coupler set for the two multi-av cables to bridge video to video and audio to audio. Come out of the Hi8 into the miniDV recorder. You should not need a Dazzle unless you want to transfer to a PC for editing before moving video back to a miniDV tape.

DSR 11 won't record DV tape to its end

You need to use longer tapes. The DER-11 is a DVCAM deck which when recording, uses a faster tape speed then mini DV. Think of your older VCR's. They had SP, two hours, and EP or SLP, which would be six hours. The SP speed would give a better picture. DVCAM is more like an SP recording except digital and a lot better. More information is laid down on the tape.

You'll have to jump up to the full size DVCAM tapes in order to record the full hour.

JVC HR-DVS3 Mini DV/S-VHS VCR time code problem

time code problems may be the result of tape path alignment, but since you have the same problem with five decks, don't overlook the possibility that the tapes themselves may have defective or non-existent time code. check to make sure the device that recorded the time code isn't malfunctioning.

Purple and green digital lines across film

One of the units is not making good interchange in recording (CAMCORDER) or (PLAYBACK) DSR11 deck either buy or get a known good recording to isolate the bad unit. Camcorders are notorious for loss of interchange as the cassette compartment wears out the scissors jack elevator gets sloppy and changes the angle of attack on the drum and wellah a tape that only plays back in the camcorder.

Picture distrub and audio noisy

Not all tracking is created equal, and this is a classic example of what you want to do in the future. Make sure that the tape you want to play back in the secondary machine has been recorded originally in the "SP" mode. "EP mode sometimes has too much crosstalk to effectively play in other machines without the more closely spaced tracks interferring with each other. Hop this helps...Accordianman
