Question about Panasonic Video Cameras

3 Answers

Hi! Is there any way to download video from my PV-GS65 to a Satellite T215D-S1160 with no firewire port? When I was trying to connect the camcorder to the Laptop using a Firewire to USB adaptor the system doesn't recognize the USB port I was trying to use. Is there any driver or any kind of converter available to download my videos? Thanks

Thanks for the tip. My webcam, as you could see, doesn't have videocard. The problem is the lack of firewire port on this Toshiba laptop. The USB port isn't enough to support the video transfer from this kind of Panasonic. This laptop has an e-SATA port.

Hi Taran. I agree your good intentions. I have the Toshiba Satellite model with no PCMCIA card slot, so, I need to know something more specific to my situation. I've read about the Firewire to USB converter cable right herehttp://www.wisegeek.com/topics/firewire-...

Thank you for your help. I must to be in search for a real solution.

Hello!

Reading your post, I was thinking - why not using the existing eSata input, instead of the USB one!? More reliable, more faster... Take a look at this device...

Hi,

This is a common problem with few of these models.

If the laptop has a PCMCIA card slot you can by a firewire card. It's what I use and it works fine. The firewire card I'm referring to is an external device that plus into the computers PCMCIA card slot. Many laptops have this as a feature. The PCMCIA card slot would be on the side of the laptop and is about 1/4" high x 3" wide.

Your video camera was designed to interface with a computer via a firewire connection (1EEE1394) port. You can however get an adapter that will allow firewire to USB connections. Here's a link that will guide you in the right direction.

It looks like there is no way to perform this, without a native firewire port. Your only two options are:
1. Use an alternate firewire/usb adapter, the one you are using may be faulty, try it with another product.
2. If your camcorder supports video to sd, you may be able to transfer your videos to an SD card and then plug the SD card directly into the laptop.
SD cards are cheap, range from $9, depending on capacity.

I lost the disk to my pv-gs65 camcorder how can I get another one so i can use my usb connect?

This CD had a driver on to allow your camera to connect to a windows PC, however unless you have XP the chances of your camera driver CD working is less that 5%, you need to pop into Ebay, type what you need in search bar, and who know you could be lucky.

The USB port on the camera is to download still pics from the Camera's SD Card to your computer. USB connector is not for video downloading.

For video downloading you have to use FireWire port. Your computer must have a FireWire port too. You will need some sort of video downloading software - like Microsoft's MovieMaker. There are some free software to download videos from mini dv camcorders to computer. It takes 1Hr to download 1Hr tape - you have to play it all to record it all.

3yrs ago when I purchased this cam, I did not have FireWire port in my computer. I searched online a lot and found a way to download video using USB - it was tough, complicated. It was possible, but quality was too bad and too many dropped frames.

If you do not have firewire port, google for FireWire PCI Card, should be <$10. You have to install it inside your PC. Also search for FireWire cable ($10+/-) that will match BOTH camera and PC ports.

Thank you.

Firewire connection not responding

Take a magnifying glass to the firewire port on the camera. Check to see if it looks damaged at all. I've used firewire with my students for many years and this has happened to me on more than one occasion. The student is not as careful as he could be when plugging in the cable. The inside of the firewire cable becomes damaged. This is a cheap fix. Buy a new cable. However, when the port is damaged, it is an expensive fix. Since the computer recognizes another camcorder it may not be the computer. And if you are using the same cable, then it will probably be a hardware issue with the camera. Look at the port and let me know if anything looks out if place.
