Question about Panasonic Video Cameras
Reading your post, I was thinking - why not using the existing eSata input, instead of the USB one!? More reliable, more faster... Take a look at this device...

This is a common problem with few of these models.
If the laptop has a PCMCIA card slot you can by a firewire card. It's what I use and it works fine. The firewire card I'm referring to is an external device that plus into the computers PCMCIA card slot. Many laptops have this as a feature. The PCMCIA card slot would be on the side of the laptop and is about 1/4" high x 3" wide.
Your video camera was designed to interface with a computer via a firewire connection (1EEE1394) port. You can however get an adapter that will allow firewire to USB connections. Here's a link that will guide you in the right direction.
Kindly accept the solution,if it has been of any help.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

It looks like there is no way to perform this, without a native firewire port. Your only two options are:
1. Use an alternate firewire/usb adapter, the one you are using may be faulty, try it with another product.
2. If your camcorder supports video to sd, you may be able to transfer your videos to an SD card and then plug the SD card directly into the laptop.
SD cards are cheap, range from $9, depending on capacity.
