Thank you for your thoughts and I agree 100% the new switch is valued at approx $200. Thus making repairing the machine expensive, it would be simpler to buy a new machine. The person that I spoke to regarding the new switch said they just bypas the selestor switch. leaving the machine to operate on max suction. Which is a normal setting anyway.

    Regards and Thank you.

Hello,
You should never bypass a shorted switch as it is not safe. However if you have a few tools and some time on your hands you can replace the switch. Look on the switch for markings or indications of it ratings. Should you need help finding a replacement switch I will gladly help you. I just can't in good mind and heart tell you how to jump a shorted AC switch.
Regards, Tony

The middle wire is your power wire. The outside wire each hold their own function. If you choose to test which is which, be sure it is unplugged when you are doing the splicing and insulate it well afterwards. When you plug that vacuum in, plug it into a surge protector as a safety factor. One side or the other will be your function.

The red power wire is activated on each side at some time or another. So trying either side is OK. It's as simple as that. Make sure to insulate every wire real well with electrical tape at the least. I do hear of this happening a lot with these vacuums. I can tell you are gonna do it anyway so there is the safest way to do this.

The wire in the middle is the common wire. Weather you test on one side or the other the middle wire is always in play.

In reinstalling the cord winder I got a little aggressive I disconnecting the wiring, like all of it. No problem just use my cheat sheet that I now realized it's gone. Help ! I don't want to blow som

Well, I presume that you have two colors. Or perhaps three.

I am not familiar with your model, but Green is always ground, all whites go together.

That leaves black. Black it the hot wire, and wants to go to the switch FIRST. Then other blacks hook up to the output of the switch.

If you have twist wire connections, be sure to trim up and re twist. leaving no single strand out. Nice and tight.

Wiring diagram

Hello,
First check the cord to make sure you have continunity throw both leads, check them at the cord reel, there are 2 wires hooked up to it, if not then the cord is bad. Check the swith also, the next cause would be the speen control mounted on the motor, part #04416342, sells for around $85. If your motor checks ok, then it most likely the speed control, they go out quite often...Thank you

I am installing a ge #15070 basic timer and there are 3 wires. Which wire do I attach to the ground?

GE 15070 timer does not have ground wire.
I assume this timer is double insulated, just like some power tools and electronics only have two prong plug.
Leave bare ground wire attached to other bare grounds in the box, and shove grounds to back of box.
I have one of these timers installed.
Timer has red, black and white wires
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15070

How to wire GE 15070 timer:
1) Switch has 2 insulated wires. Take switch wires and connect them to timer-black-wire and timer-red-wire. Choose either one for now.
2) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires.
3) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground, along with timer-green wire.
4) Turn on electricity, and slide switch to ON-or-OFF. If lights come on, timer is wired correctly. If lights do not come on, then reverse timer-red and timer-black wires.

5) Add a comment for more free help.
6) Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, fixya expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.

Connecting motor part

Hi Charlotte,  Yes, colour coding of wires is a nightmare, isn't it!? Red and brown both signify "live", and blue and black both signify "neutral".  So you should connect brown to red, and black to blue. I hope this is helpful. If you need more guidance, please post here again and I'll see what more I can do for you. I value your feedback, so please remember to rate my response. Good luck!

Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on, but isn't clogged

Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on,...
Hi,

I have the above canister vac, which after my son tried to vac the stairs, it rolled down the stairs on him, but still worked, after turned off/on. Then after turned off maybe 10-15 mins., stopped working when we tried the switch. My father in law is our fix it guy, but still having a problem with the switch. Is there a wiring guide we could look at?

Thank you!

ALevy

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can try to call the factory for the Miele S251i schematics / wiring diagram @ the phone number and website listed below or I put a few pieces of information listed below that might help.
1. The vacuum cleaner switches off automatically
A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. Some models have a warning light (triangle) which comes on to indicate that it has overheated. Allow the appliance to cool down for approx. 30 mins. and remove any blockages to the air path.
2. The "Change dustbag" indicator stays on even when a new bag has been inserted
To ensure the dustbag change indicator gives a correct reading, lift the floor nozzle or power head off the floor slightly to prevent the vacuum created in the suction tube from influencing the reading.
3. The exhaust filter indicator is red
Change the exhaust filter and then press "Reset" to switch off the indicator light.
