Question about Sony Computers & Internet

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX28CP here in the shop for a power jack replacement. The issue is that I cant' find any. I tried Googling and absolutly no luck. Tried Sony support and they just said to send it in to them. Woudl anyone know of a compatable jack? I can measure the plug and let you know sizes if that helps. Thanks, Ed

I have that, what's needed is the jack that goes in the case. It has a yellow plastic outer cover.
    Thanks,
    Ed

Bad host name, no site there. That still looks like the AC adaptor from the description though. I need the jack that gets soldered to the motherboard.

  • Ed Edison Mar 25, 2011

    Correct. Just the jack.

  • Ed Edison Mar 25, 2011

I know how to take the computer apart. What I don't know is where to find a jack. The same jack must be used on other models which probably have jacks available, right? So how can we find out what other models use that same jack?

  • Ed Edison Mar 25, 2011

    It's 16 volts not 19.
Since these jacks are nearly impossible to find, I think I'm just going to change the male jack on the charger to a jack that I have a female for and use the female jack in the computer.
    Thanks for trying.

I have a nice little rework station here that has a suction desoldering iron and I use it all the time.
    Thanks,
    Edison

    Thanks, that's what I'll do.

Ed, sorry to say to you that Sony power jacks are maybe the most difficult ones to find in the market. I know from my own Vaio. I suggest you to change both the connectors (the one at the power supply and the one on the motherboard) with a suitable set at the external dimension that you need. Otherwise you may find one jack with the same dimensions but the inner connector might be a little thinner (this is my case) and you will get a problem.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.

Thanks and regards

Vaio replacement battery "plugged in. not charging"

For this kind of issue, you may try the following troubleshooting steps for confirmation:
1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure your vaio vgn-cr510e power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

ON MY LAPTOP VGN-T340P I REPLACE THE BATTERY BUT IT DOES NOT CHARGE

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

I have a vgn-ar630e with power issues wont do nothing even with ac jack pluguing. no led light.

Sounds like a jack issue. You may need to send the laptop in for service if you cannot replace the power jack yourself.

I think I have broken my headphone jack on my sony vaio VGN-CS320J because headphones plugged into this jack do not work, unless held at a certain angle, otherwise sound continues to come from the laptop...

It might be the plug on the headphone that's bad - try it on another laptop. If it's the jack that's bad, then it will need to be taken apart and that's not easy to fix - recommend having a repair shop fix it.

Power socket is loose

dc jack socket for Sony VAIO VGN-FW is very easy to loose, I think you can replace the cabled dc jack, no solder work, plug in and work, see this reference page: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-vgnfw-series-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2647.html
the above item is with ground cable, it is known that sony FW uses both harnesses with or without ground cable, you can cut the ground cable directly if your laptop does not use it, or order from this page for the one without ground cable: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-07300012492a-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2782.html
hope this can help you

I have sony vaio VGN-140G, no power on. The AC adapter is good. Only conect the mother board and no power on.

Has the ac adapter been tested with a volt meter? Sounds like it could be the ac jack or the motherboard. try removing the battery and trying it. My company charges $100.00 to replace ac jacks. If it's the board try your luck on ebay.

Powerjack

I get all jacks for my shop through Ebay. There are several vendors that sell only dc jacks, and are unbeatable on their prices. Most jacks cost approx $6 with shipping, so browse Ebay for the jack.
