This actually may be the defrost heater that is not working. If the heater does not work, the ice does not melt and the whole thing becomes an ice block.
This would be a job for a proffesional

GE fridge not cold.

If the coil (in the freezer) is icing up then it's not being properly defrosted on a regular basis, ie. 2 - 3 times a day. On older models it's usually just a simple matter of replacing the defrost timer. On newer models, the defrost timer is integral with the 'motherboard', so the whole (expensive Chinese made) motherboard must be replaced because they're not serviceable.

Less likely (but possible) are the defrost heating element and/or temperature sending unit found on or near the coil itself. Least likely is a low refrigerant level, which would indicate a leak.

Bypass defrost timer

Just turn the defrost tmer clockwise to cause defrost or run conditions. If you bypass the defrost timer you will have problems like shorting of wiring or loss of the timed defrost. Why not replace the defrost timer if you know it is defective? What is the model number of your refrigerator? Thanks Sea Breeze

My whirlpool ed5fgexss00 wont get cold

Look at rear wall inside the back of the freezer and see if a frost line is building on rear wall. I have a feeling your freezer is not defrosting properly and not sure exactly what number you model has but checking the defrost timer Click Here=> ED5FTGXKQ00 Controls is where I would begin. We will need to run a couple test to make sure your=> 2323198 Heating Element and Defrost Thermostat=> 2321799 Defrost Thermostat are working properly.Testing heating element is also shown on same page above.Try turning the defrost timer clockwise slowly until refrigerator compressor stops running. This will place the freezer in manual defrost. Then tell me if once you do this if freezer begins defrost. If yes then the defrost timer=> 482493 Defrost Timer is at fault. If stays in defrost simply turn again until compressor restarts again. After doing this I will want you to watch this how to replace defrost heater=> Here I know this may be a little confusing but defrosting manually will help you see which parts may be needed. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Is not coling and the coyel is foull of ice

The coil being full of ice is a defrost issue in which either the defrost timer, the defrost heater, or the defrost timer or adaptive control is not working properly. If you have a multimeter you can perform a continuity test on the thermostat and the heater to see if one of these is at fault. If you find that both have continuity and are working properly message me back the model number of your unit and I will give instruction on how to test either the defrost timer or adaptive control. Also if you have any further questions message me those back as well. Thanks Rick
p.s Here is a link as well if you want to read more into the defrost issue click this link http://www.applianceoutletservice.com/appliance-care-tips/refrigerator-tips/refrigerator-defrost-system-information.htm

Hi,
This is a chronic problem with these...
It could be either of those...they are not that expensive, so it may be worth while to replace both...

I'm getting ice buildup in on spot in my fridge. Whats causing that?

Defrost problem. Check, defrost timer, thermostat, heater are working properly.
First, locate the defrost timer which may hiddenbehind corners of the fridge at the back bottom, in some models located in theceiling of the fresh food section or behind the cold control cover. Once youlocate the defrost timer, slowly turn the screw in the middle of the defrosttimer with straight screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. Now it's indefrost. If the defrost heater(s) starts, replace the defrost timer and defrostthermostat. If the heater(s) does not start, unplug wire cord to check ohm testfor continuity of heater. If continuity is there, plug cord wire which givespower 120volts (check specification) to heater. If heater no starts, bypassdefrost thermostat by join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. If the heaternow comes on, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heateritself is bad, replace it. Thanks and hope helpful

The bottom of my frigidaire is not cooling properly; and the freezer works great; is it a minor problem i can fix

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
