try opening in a linux machine and you should have all the hard drive files still on there ready to be used and take them and then reformat you hard drive once you have moved your files to a safe place. and then format back to fat32(works on both mac and windows although limit is only 4gb single file sizes are allowed) or ntfs (only works for windows machines)and copy and paste files back onto the drive. It may already be in NTFS format if so copy all files on a windows machine and save safely then reformat the harad drive into Fat32 :D movies shouldn't be bigger than 4gb each so any files that are smaller will be fine

Error message if trying to save files larger than about 4GB.

The Buffalo Ministation hard drive comes with a default FAT32 file system. This file system is used for compatibility with Windows, MAC OS X, LINUX, etc. The file system does not allow files to exceed 4GB. To save larger files, the disc must be reformatted. For Windows, it should be reformatted to NTFS.

You can change the file type of the driver to NTFS but you have to reformat the whole drive. Right-click My Computer > Manage Computer > Disk Management then you can see there your drive. Right click on it and Format. It will automatically format it to NTFS

My Book 1Tb will not let me put movies on it

I know exactly what your problem is. You are trying to add a file bigger than 4 GB on a fat32 external hard drive. You simply cant put something that big in there without breaking it into smaller bits. You could easily add a bunch of small files just not huge files bigger than 4GB.
Your solution would be to reformat your WD external drive to a ntfs. That can be done as easy as right clicking your external drive through my computer and highlighting "reformat". Good luck and I hope you dont forget this little thing about computers..sometimes when you get a good deal on pc hardware its for a reason :)
this is good for all hard drives including western digital
