Question about Sony PlayStation® 3 (60 GB) Console
That's what caused my friggin problem! I downloaded the latest operating system at the time...this is around V.2.10 or whatever, it came on MGS4: Guns of the Patriot...ever since then, only my PS2 games will work on it. Hell it won't even load up Oblivion and that was working fine until MGS4 came along!

SOURCE: wont play playstation 2 games
This can occur if the Playstation has been knocked or dropped. On the slim version if you remove the screws underneath and remove the top cover you may find the the small drive shaft has been dislodged from the motor. Push it back into place refit cover and screws. This fixed my PS2 with this fault.

I will advice you clean the lens of your ps3 player, cleaning the lens of the ps3 player will make the ps3 player read the disc, if the problem is not solve after cleaning the lens, it means, you will need to replace the lens on your ps3, the lens might be weak that it can no longer read any disc or play any game. the two options above should fix the problem of your ps3.
