Question about Refrigerators
I assume it is a small bar fridge?
It is quite possible that the build up of ice was due to the refrigerator not turning off when it got to the set temperature.
A possible reason for this is that there was a very very small refrigerant leak that remained a small leak while the refrigerator was running. As soon as you turned the fridge off to defrost it the metal warmed up and expanded allowing even more gas to escape. So when you turned it on everything worked as before but there is not enough refrigerant left in the system to get cold any more.
These fridges have a small charge of about 45 grams which is not much but the labour costs involved plus ancillary parts could cost you around $300. Buy a new one with warranty for $199
