Question about Computers & Internet
You can use any wireless modem stick if your wireless modem can connect to the stick it has to be for your particular modem. Make sure that the stick is compatible with the Operating System you are currently using for Win XP or otherwise, the drivers are loaded and make sure that the firewall settings are on for your devices to access inbound and outbound conformities. This should be a simple plug and play situation.
Turn off the computer and your modem place the stick in the port you wish to use. Then place the driver disc in the DVD or CD ROM whichever you have to install the driver with most likely it will be in the stick the software for it and it should auto-run. Then turn on everything, wait for a bit for the works to settle in. The search the Internet using IE8 if it does not find the internet it will open a window asking you if you want IE to diagnose connection problems. It should repair it. If this will not work then you will want to go to 22.214.171.124 and type in for the username without the quotes, "admin" and the password, "admin"
This will be the default page for your wireless connection you should see all the Bigpond configurations. Click on reset the modem your IP should be Dynamic automatically your ISP will install the configurations needed. The reset button is located on the modem use a toothpick push the little button in for about 15 seconds this should get you up and going. I hope that this gave you some sort of an idea on what is going on. Thanks for using FixYa! Do not forget to post a vote if I assisted you in any way, Thanks John

Assuming your current laptop has Windows, then it should work with a new laptop running Windows. If you're getting a Mac, it might work if you simply plug it in, or you might have to install certain drivers to make it work.
