Phillips external hard drive

My philips external hard drive isnt showing anymore, it shows as an unknow device and is asking me to get a driver for it, the leptop says a driver has already been installed but somehow the hard drive cannot be seen
Help please! When I connect my Philips external hard drive to my laptops USB I get a message saying the USB was not recognized. The hard drive was working before. I also tryed to connect to other laptop, but still the same result.

There is a chance that the hard drive itself is at fault and the computer cannot recognize it try using it as a slave drive in computer. and use a recovery cd from boot to check it out
You could use thee ultimate boot cd (download) to check it
