Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Pentax Optio V15 camera. It was working beautifully. It got exposed to extremely cold temperatures (-10 degrees) for about an hour and it's never really wanted to turn on since -- even after it was re-exposed to normal temperatures. The lens has been stuck in the out position since I first experienced this problem (well, with one, brief exception). Every time I try to turn it on, the camera starts to turn on, but then one second later, it shuts off. I've tried removing the battery and reinserting it. I've tried removing the data card... still no go. Any thoughts on how I can "reset" this lovely little camera of mine?

Hi,

Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for 10 minutes, then put them back in and turn the camera on. If this does not work then try the compressed air. With a fine tip blow off the gun, and dry compressed air set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around a the lens. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function as fine.
Secondly give a gentle tap on the sides of the camera and then switch on your camera, you will not get this error message as the internal mechanism which is stuck and causing this problem gets working properly.

If you still face the problem, then the helical threads inside the camera probably got bent to the point that it won't work anymore.
You need to get repaired.

Hope this helps.
Shane

Can someone please help me! I'm trying to demonstrate the effects of depth of field using a Pentax Optio V15 camera for an assignment and I can't find f settings anywhere on this camera! Is there another...

Like most point&shoot cameras the V15 doesn't give you much direct control. You can use the Portrait mode to narrow the depth of field and the Landscape mode to deepen the DoF.

Be aware that with such a short lens you won't see much difference. The DoF is dependent on the actual focal length of the lens, not its 35mm equivalent.

Pentax Optio S - lens cover rings popped off

Hi,
I'd be most happy to share with you how I solved my problem with the Pentax Optio S. It took a bit of clever 'problem-solving' thought and inspection. After suddying the design of each piece and the working components of the exposed lens area, I was able to identify which sections worked together appropriately.
And, I think it appropriate at this time that I ask you to purchase one of my plans in order to receive the full benefit of what I learned from my skillful thinking and examination, and thereby successfully repaired my camera.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Power keeps shutting down.

It sounds like you may have a bad lens assembly, but you did not mention if it seems to be fully extending or not. If it is sticking, it will usually buzz. If it fails to open all the way, it will turn itself back off. This sounds like what may be happening. I can fix this for $40, or you can send it to Pentax in Arizona. I don't know what they charge for a lens assembly, but the minimum charge for this camera seems to be about $90. If you just want to get rid of this camera, I also buy all Pentax Option a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras.

Pentax Optio WP

I have the same problem.  Here's a couple of things to try:
  • You can still access the picture review features by holding down the review button while you turn it on (note that if you hold down the trash button you'll see the firmware version.)
  • What doesn't work: Resetting the camera from the setting menu; replacing the battery, replacing the SD card, cursing.
  • I've been able to consistently get it to function normally by hitting the camera into the palm of my hand on the left side (with the viewing screen facing you), just after turning on the camera.  If this doesn't work, keep hitting harder until it works.  Once on the camera works normally.
My guess is that the lubricants are getting old and sticky - I had a Canon SLR that developed the same problem after being in the extreme cold. Possibly temperature changes may affect this problem - warm good, cold bad.
