Where is the thermal fuse located on this dryer? please

Hello Leslie

I don't know what is the brand of you dryer. I will make you a preference this brand.

In GE dryers, the thermal fuse--sometimes called a safety thermostat--is located behind the drum on the inside of the dryer. To access the thermal fuse you will need to open the dryer from the top. Though it may sound a bit daunting, opening the top of the dryer to reveal its inner workings is surprisingly simple. To open the dryer top you will need a flat-head screwdriver, putty knife or similar tool. Insert the screwdriver or putty knife underneath the dryer's top panel. Slide the putty knife along the bottom of the panel until you locate the two clips that hold it in place. These clips are usually located about four inches in from either side of the top dryer panel. Apply pressure to the clips to release them. Once the clips have been released, lift up the top panel and use the supports to keep it upright. Look inside the dryer, behind the drum, to find what looks like a round metal pan. This metal pan is actually the dryer's heating element housing. The thermal fuse will be located next to the heating element housing. Look for a white strip with two wires connected to it and you've located the thermal fuse in your GE dryer.

700 dryer maintenance

What information are you looking for exactly? Maintenance is basically cleaning the lint trap and making sure you have proper air flow out the back and through the ducting outside of the house. Are you wanting to take the machine apart and verify something. I'll post something for that but remember, if its not broke, don't fix it.

There are 4 different designs that used on these dryers and each one has its own specific way to access the element, blower, fuses. etc In this FAQ I will describe each design and method to access for each one. ---------------Design 1: This design for this dryer has the heating components located in the front of the machine, which means to gain access you'll have to lift the top and remove the front. You can visually verify this specific type because the lint screen is located inside the dryer requiring you to open the door to gain access to it. As with any do itself repair, always unplug the machine before you start. Here's the method of access listed in numerical order. 1) Remove the lower kick plate by pressing in the two clips, one on each side located in between the upper and lower portion of the front In doing this you'll gain access to the element, located on the right hand side facing, the high limit and thermostat fuse located on the element, the cycling thermostat, located on the blower housing, and thermal fuse, located next to the cycling thermostat. In gas models the gas coils and ignitor may be located on the left hand side facing. If changing the belt, rollers or motor, continue to step two. 2) Lift the top by placing a flat head screwdriver in between the front and the top of the dryer and pry it upwards. In some cases there are two metal clips, one on the left and one on the right, that need to be pushed forward to lift the top up. 3) With the top up and the kickplate removed take the door springs off, one on each side, and remove the door by taking out the 4 screws one upper left and right, one lower left and right, off and don't forget to disconnect your door switch-----------------Design 2 : In this design the heating components are located in the rear of the machine. All you have to do is get behind the dryer, remove the 9 1/4" screws and remove the panel. The element eill on the right had side with the two fuses located on it, the cycle and thermal fuse will be on the lower left on the blower housing. To access the belt, rollers etc, remove the lint trap on top, take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off.--------------Design 3 : In this design the components are located in the front of the machine, but to access them you'll follow the method used in design 2 for accessing the belt, rollers, etc.take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off. The set up will be like design one.--------------- Note: The best way to determine if your dryer is desgin 2 or 3, remove lint trap and pop the top. When you've got this done, you'll be able to look in between the inside rear wall and the rear panel and see if the element, fuses atc are there. If not it will be design 3---------Design 4 : HE, HE2, Duet, etc the way you take the top off is a little different. For these machines, there are 3 to 4 screws located on the top back side you'll need to remove, and then the dryer top can be slid back and removed. From there you'll remove the kickplate in come cases by taking the 3 or 4 screws off located at the bottom of the kickplate. With that removed you will be able to remove the front, but only after you remmove the control panel. The In some cases the components will be located in the rear like the second design.

Disassemble kenmore 970c8810600 dryer

The way to visually see if the belt has broken or not is to 1) unplug the dryer. 2) Remove the lint screen on the top of the dryer. 3) take the two phillips head screws out where the lint trap is. 4) with a flat head screwdriver pop the top of the dryer up by sliding the driver inbetween the top and front of the dryer and pry upwards a little. 5) You'll now see the drum, if the belt is not around it its broken, and if it's visible try to lift it. If it taught, its good. IF THE BELT IS BROKEN OR LOOSE CONTINUE TO NEXT STEPS 6) on the left and right upper inner sides of the dryer you will find two screws, one on each side, remove these and the front should be easlily remove. 7) once off you'll be able to easily see the motor, the belts idler pulley, and everything else. If the dryer is a DUET or HE2 or HE3 style, (dryers that match the front loader) then the way you take the top off is a little different. For these machines, there are 3 to 4 screws located on the top back side you'll need to remove, and then the dryer top can be slid back and removed

Where is the heating element located on the kenmore plus pdryer. I purchased it in 1982

Hello,
on that vintage dryer the heat element was behind the rear panel. When looking at it from the rear with the back panel off it is inside of the housing on the right side. The way to remove it is to raise the main dryer top by removing the 2 phillips headed screws on the top where the lint filter fits and pop up and raise the top and from the front you can look behind the back wall the holds the drum up, from the front on the top of the housing the element fits(left side when looking at it from the front) will be a bracket that holds that heater housing to that rear drum support plate. Remove that screw(5/16th inch hexhead) and go to the back and pull housing out from top of housing then lift off from bottom.When reinstalling be sure the housing fits into bracket and the bottom of where it goes. To remove the element there will be one 5/16th inch hex headed screw at the bottom by where its opened. The part # for that style heat element is 4391960 it is available from your local appliance parts store or online at;
searspartsdirect.com

Thanks for bring me back to the old days i started my appliance repair career a year before you bought that dryer (1981)

I hope this has helped you with your dryer,

Open the door, at the top of the recessed door opening you will see two round plastic caps. Remove these and you will see screw behind that you have to remove. Some models the caps are on the right and left hand sides. Slide the top towards the back after removing screws and the top will lift off. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
