thanks but already had that suggestion - the question was where to find the cmos battery in my c8180 printer

hope you can give me specific detail instruction - otherwise i will have to continue to un-screw everything

  • jandafraser Mar 25, 2011

as you seem to agree that removing the cmos battery, can you advise me of its location in my c8180 printer please as per my original request - or is it something to do with the age of the printer - 2/3 years

    Thanks, Allister

sorting through the internet self help information, there appears to be an awful lot of frustrated people having the same problem (error 0xc18a001)
the Fix Ya solution overcame the problem after I connected the printer via cable - the wireless connection would not re-connect after re-installing the soft-ware. (It had worked for the last 2 years without a problem.)
Cant help but wonder why these error codes and fixes are not in the operating manual.
    Many thanks

Looking at the machine from the front the cmos is in the right hand side of the base.Remove screws and the yellow protection plug from the sockets at the rear if it is there and then fold down the panel so that it is only connected by the wires to the on/off switch. The cmos is on the other side of the revealed circuit board. I unscrewed the board and without removing any connectors swung it back a bit, stuffed a plastic widgit in to keep it back and removed/replaced the cmos and reassembled.

  • Jo Radcliffe May 09, 2013

Oops, should have said there is a small L shaped panel at the front RHS that should be removed first and of course disconnect the lead that goes to the top part of the machine at the back.

Error code oxc18a01

Hi,

The "Oxc18" series errors can be removed by resetting the printer. Unplug the USB cable from the printer, remove the ink cartridges. When the "Insert ink cartridges" message appears unplug the power cord from the printer. Wait 1 minute (at least), then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer if it didn't come on by itself. Reinsert the ink, close the unit and print a calibration page if prompted to do so. Finally reconnect the USB cable to the printer. If this doesn't work, the unit needs service (or replacement if the service call will cost more than a new printer).

Thank you!!

On startup, printer displayed Ink System has failed. Error )xc18a0001. Have tried the cartridge-out/power off recommendation, fault is still there on power-up.

I searched internet forums and found out how to reset the internal processor, thereby deleting the error message and allowing the printer to operate normally.
Process was:- Press on/off to turn off power. Unplug power cable. Wait 1 minute. Press and hold 'Red Eye Removal' and 'Print Photos' buttons. Insert power cable and printer automatically powers up. Keep holding the two buttons until the display screen goes blank. Press on/off to turn power off. Wait 1 minute. Press on/off to turn power on. Press 'Setup' on touchscreen and go through the procedure, including wireless setup (if used). "Bingo".

HP Photosmart C8180 - Ink System Failure - Oxc18a0101

i had exactly this error message. Rang HP. They said it was a hardware failure, they couldn't fix over phone, would cost 2x cost of new printer to fix, but they offered me 20% discount on new printer if ordered over the phone.

But with some fiddling, problem now resolved. Here's what I did:

- press Red Eye Removal and Print Photos button together
- goes to Mfg Commands -> Enter Special Keys Combo. Press OK
- uaiux Support page (some code) -> click right arrow key until you get to System Configuration Menu - click oK
- should say hardware failure status - click OK
- says hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear
- I clicked OK on this and system reset itself and problem was solved
