Question about Toshiba (5105-S701) Graphic Card

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba 5105 s701 laptop. The graphics card (reportedly) is what will "fizz out" after a while, starting with some vertical lines on some or all parts of the screen, then if I continue, eventually it will go to a complete "fuzzy w/o picture" screen. If I turn it off, a few hours later, it will boot up just fine! I'm not a big "change" sort, so would be happy with a repair. What is your recommendation?

There is probably a COLD JOINT (broken solder) on the video or mother board, I would recommend to check the warranty and see if you can claim it, if not than you could try re-flowing the board, there are companies that do this or you can do it your self (if you have skills, courage, gutts and nothing to lose...), first you need to STRIP the laptop completely so that you have just the motherboard in your hands, (remove everything that is removable) wires, connectors, batteries, etc..., than pre-heat your oven to 390 F, put the board in a cookie tray with a 1 inch elevation (you can use aluminium balls in each corners) put it in the oven for 8 minuts than turn off the oven, delicately open the oven door and DONT'T MOVE IT the time it cools down to room temperature, re-assemble the laptop and try it... if it works, serve with a nice cold beer ha! if not than you need a new laptop...

Worked for me with a DEL Latitude... it's running fine since...

Good luck!

Hello, I just bought a Toshiba laptop. Then I downloaded this game called World of Tanks, but my laptop cant handle the graphics and details and it gets an avg of 3 fps which really bugs me. But im still...

Laptops in general usually have weaker graphics cards. You don't mention the model of the Toshiba laptop you have, so I can't really tell what graphics chipset is used in your case. If it's an old laptop (i.e. you bought it second-hand) then it's possible that there's not much you can do about it. On the other hand, if it's a relatively modern model (released in the last 2-3 years) it should have enough horse-power to play games, albeit in lower resolutions/details than a desktop graphics card.
Make sure you have the latest graphics driver installed for your model (and Windows version). Again, since you don't mention which model that is, I cannot give you a specific link to get it from. Try Toshiba's website and go from there.
You can find the model name underneath the laptop, usually on a silver sticker near a corner.
Hope that helps!

Check the minimum specs for the game (on the game box) - your laptop is probably far below the minimum hardware requirement.

Toshiba satellite 5005-S504 boots over and over and over non stop

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

I suspect my graphics card has been swapped by my comp. guy.

Your graphics are integrated into the motherbaord, so he couldn't have changed it out on you. Your Satellite has a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP with 64MB shared memory.

You can try to update or rollback the driver to see if that solves the problem, or contact the guy who serviced your laptop and see if he has any ideas.

Display problem with Toshiba 5105-S701

SINCE THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM ARE YOU GOING TO BE THE ONE DOING THE REPAIR,IF SO I WOULD CHECK EVERY CONNECTION IN IT.I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE CONNECTIONS THAT WENT TO THE MONITOR.IT SEEMS TO BE A GRAPHIC CARD PROBLEM BUT I WOULD NOT CHANGE THE GRAPHICS CARD UNTIL I CHECKED ALL CONNECTIONS.AND SINCE YOU HOOKED IT TO ANOTHER MONITOR I WOULD SAY IT IS THE GRAPHICS CARD.I HAVE FOUND LOT OF PARTS AND STUFF ON EBAY.THEY ARE USUALLY THE LOWEST PRICES I CAN FIND.
