Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I downloaded something offered by Microsoft and when I did my entire home page changed, so I went in to uninstall. Now I cannot get onto the internet and am getting "ordinal 383 is missing from my dynamic link library". I have tried to go back to an earlier date, but have been unable to do so after choosing two different times. What have I done?

You probably caught a bad virus, first of all Microsoft NEVER offer downloads of any kind... you have to get them your self on there SECURED web site, watch out for malicious advertising... if it's a virus, and if the system is still working, get a GOOD anti-virus, update it to the last update than scan the computer....

Good luck!

You might check with a local computer repair shop, but if you can't get your computer to restore to an earlier date, you may have to reload Windows. If you do that, and you still have problems, you might have a virus in the bios, and that might require servicing. Not knowing what version of windows you're running, and what model and type of computer you have, I can't really say much about a specific solution that might be available on google.
Try to defrag your computer, then run a system restore again, just in case that might help.
You might have a virus from a site posing as microsoft, or a conflict or faulty download, so restoring would be the best and less obtrusive fix.
Wish I had more, it's not a fun problem, but hope this helps.

Now do i reset google as my web page

You likely have malware on your PC which has hijacked your home page.
  • Download Malwarebytes (free), and have it scan your pc
  • Delete/quarantine anything it finds
  • Download SuperAntispyware (free), and have it scan your PC
  • Delete/quarantine anything it finds.

To reset your home page:
  • Open the page you want as your home page in your Browser
  • Next, go to your browser settings (in google, its the "gear" on the Upper RH corner of your browser; in IE, also click on the "gear" and select "internet options)
  • In the section for setting home page, select "use Current" (the page you opened in the 1st step)
  • Hit OK
If the home page you set (google) doesn't appear, you will need to have further Malware/virus removal work done.

How to delete genieo

If you value your privacy, and the stability of your computer, then don't follow any suggestions that include using the genieo adware uninstaller : it leaves active software behind.

The company know this, but seem unable or unwilling to resolve it.

Instead, try to carefully follow the instructions at
http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/

How to delete genieo

  • From the Applications folder, open "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the instructions.
  • If the uninstall is missing you can download it from here.

The uninstall does not usually put back your original browser home page and default search provider. You will have to go into your browser preferences and change those yourself to something other than Genieo (in Safari these can be changed in the General preferences...in other browsers such as Firefox or Chrome, look for Options to set the home page...then you may need to follow the instructions in their built-in help for setting the default search provider).

After installing escan antivirus in window vista pc show the physicaly memari dum

Try using a FREE*, normal anti-virus from Microsoft Corporation:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download
Click on Download button in the page and installl it, but before that please close any open programs and uninstall the escan anti-virus. By any open programs I mean open folders, any other installations, just go to page, click Download, run it, then close your browser.

Hello,I ahave tried to download power point free

You probably have to uninstall the application entirely. This includes registry settings. Most often the provider will offer a "clean-up" tool to remove the application. This tool removes all traces of the app.

For the last two days haven't been able to get onto youtube

Please do the following:

On the desktop:
-First, go to mozila.com and download the version of Firefox they have to your computer (desktop)
-once the download is completed, uninstall Firefox by going to [Start], [Control Panel] then [Add/Remove Programs]
-scroll down the list of programs you have and uninstall Firefox.
-You also want to uninstall any "toolbar" programs on the list as well (google, yahoo, etc). These toolbars can also interfere
-After uninstalling Firefox and toolbar programs, look at your list of programs and make sure you only have 1 Anti-virus program installed (if you see 2 or more, please reply to us on how many you have installed).
-Now, restart your computer.... then log in.
-Install the new FireFox we downloaded to your desktop, by double-clicking on it
-Follow the on-screen prompts (as you may have done before when you first installed it).
-Now, after Firefox starts, try to go to Youtube.

Let us know how it went. :)
