Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

All my colour cartridges are ok.I've just replaced the black cartridge but its not printing anything black. Checked the openings there all clear...Checked the ports in the printer itself../.they're clear. Ran a test page and diagnostic page...no black. When running the diagnostic page the top of the paper looked as if it was printed in black, yet the info underneath the headings was very very very faint to the point of not being able to read it. please help. Thank you

Run the clean print cartridges utility

  1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Open HP Solution Center , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settingssubmenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • If the HP Solution Center method does not work, open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and chooseProperties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, then thePrinter Services button, then click the Estimated Ink Levels tab.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , then follow the on-screen instructions. Up to three levels of cleaning are available. Discard or recycle the page that prints.
Clean the contacts NOTE: The printer will only function if all six ink cartridges are installed. Also, HP cannot guarantee the quality of refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges. Figure 3: Lifting the top coverAll my colour cartridges are - c00706023.gif

  4. Gather cleaning materials:
    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (do not use tap water or alcohol or platen cleaners)
    • Lint-free cloth or swab. Eyeglass wipes and coffee filters work well.
  5. Lightly moisten the swab and squeeze out excess moisture.
  6. Holding the cartridge by its handle, wipe the copper contacts. FiguAll my colour cartridges are - c00372274.gifthe contactsc00372274.gif 1 - Copper contacts

It sounds like the cartridge could be faulty out of the box, but make sure all of the protective plastic tape has been removed from the cartridge. Make sure the copper contacts are clean on the cartridge and inside the machine. The following HP support page has the procedure to clean and align the print heads, and may help:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00707174&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1153481&lang=en
Other than that, touch the cartridge to a moist paper towel to make sure the ink hasn't dried up. On some types of ink, if you leave the cartridge in open air too long, it will start drying up, and can sometimes be revived by re-moisturizing it.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

I'm no expert but my experience is:

There are two Black cartridges: Cli5Bk and Cli8Bk

Make sure both cartridges have ink in them and that you have removed all packaging including the orange strip.

Dell V305w Printer Alignment problem. Remove tape from cartridges or check troubleshooting. Press > to continue. Ink cartridges reset, tape removed, trays aligned. HELP!

In my case this happened with black cartridge out of ink, colour cartridge low; replaced black: had permanent alignment problem, though test print looked OK; wouldn't print black. Replaced colour cartridge, then it all worked OK, straightaway!

Print in black

Most progs will let you have an option for specifying how you want it printing.
However if you open the Printer Driver Setup Window and click Ink Cartridge Settings on the Maintence Tab, you can then select which Cartridge to use. Then click OK.
HOWEVER "Black only" does NOT work if you use any other than the Plain Paper setting or if borderless is used (selected/checked).

Possible to print only black when colour cartridges are empty?

This printer does not let you print if even one of the cartidges is out of ink. I suggest you replace them and then in the printer properties change your settings to the way you want color to be spent.

its ok I solved it! I didn't realise that all the photo cartridge does is gloss over the colour picture produced by the colour cartridge. I simply had to replace the colour cartridge which had run out, so now its all working perfectly!!

Orange flashing light on printer

No the ink is not to low you could try removing the ink cartridges and using a soft cloth wipe clean the little gold contacts on the cartridge and also the printer. Is the ink cartridge a original one if not even though the HP software states that there is 20% in there the likely thing is that the cartridge is empty replace and this should be OK.

I hope the first suggestion works for you as will not cost any money.

Thanks J

My Lexmarkx1270 will not print any black text etc

Is it a new cartridge? If the cartridge has been sitting a while it can get clogged. Try using a moist paper towel and gently wiping the cartridge where the ink comes out.
You could also try running the Lexmark Solutions Center program and use the clean nozzles option to force it to squirt out some black ink.
