Question about GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX27PRBWW

1 Answer

My Profile Ice maker makes a very loud popping sound. Sometimes it makes ice and sometimes it will go days without making any. I hear it filling with water so I was curious where this water was going and I discovered a pool under the bottom drawer. On occasions when it starts popping I pull out the ice bucket and it will have several pieces of ice wedged between the wall of the dispenser that has gotten stuck and will not allow the ice to dump into the bucket. I don't know if this is all related or if I have several issues going on. Thanks, Kevin

Ice maker won't make ice

most times I see the tray and fill tube ice up its due to a leaky fill valve , this valve should close tight after filling tray , but sometimes they leak just slightly then everything freezes up in a block of ice

fill valves on most all units is located in back lower left corner , just follow the water line in the back of unit

I have a GE Profile pfss6pkx. The ice maker has stopped making ice and makes a clicking sound. Do I need a new ice maker or is there something I should try first?

Hello Dave;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

1.) Press the test button while hold the bottom freeze light switch in. The light switch is in the front top part of the freezer. Observe what happens.

2.) Your ice maker will not work if unless you reach temperature. look in the back of your freezer wall. Is there frost or ice build up?

3.) Do you have ice on the bottom of your freezer section? Then you have a frozen drain, ice built up and can not reach desired temperature.

4.0 You have a non repairable ice maker. Sometime these flex types become jammed with a ice cube in the mold. Check this out.

5.) Your ice maker has a sensor. This may be bad, but I do not think this is the problem.

Get back to me on what you find from the above.

Popping noise

it's the aluminum defroster coils cooling after a defrost cycle.
a padded aluminum foil-covered mat installed behind the defrost heater in the back of the fridge is a fix at least for Samsung I know.

Sounds like the defrost timer doing its job but with loud efforts. GE is known for its different sounds some clanks to clicks to popping. Thank God for good hearing but curse GE for its poor noise reduction efforts. This is why GE is cheaper than its other competitors. They cut corners welcome to the world of GE. BB

My Maytag refrigerator makes a loud popping noise. It woke me up at 1 am. Refridgerator is 10 years old no ice maker. The sound is pretty loud. Is this a bad sign? Is there any danger here? Should I be...

the popping noise you're talking about, could it just be your self-defroster in operation, sometimes if there a lot of ice and it operates a long time, there could be expansion noises, such as the refrigerator walls expanding/contracting from the heat of the defroster,if it's water you will hear a sizzling popping sound, nothing to fear dear

easiest way to tell is pop off the white cover on the ice maker, you'll see letters on the ice maker,if you get a jumper wire and stick it into T and H the ice maker should start to spin, your jumping the motor out,if it doesn't the ice maker is bad, then put the jumper into the V and the L,this should fill the ice maker, you're sending power down to the valve by doing this,if you don't hear the valve buzzing or anything and no water comes right out to the ice maker the valve most likely is bad,if water doesn't fill the ice maker, you can fill it with water and after 2 hours it should produce ice in the bucket,if it does then you know it's the valve,if it doesn't drop ice the ice maker is bad.also if i were you i would change out the ice maker anyway even if the valve is bad,the mold in the ice maker usually rots out after 7 to 10 years, you'll see specks in the ice,you can look into the mold of the ice maker to see if it is bad, you'll see all the green liner peeling out and make sure you change out the water filter at least once a year, they want you to change it like every 6 months but depending on how much water you use most times you can get a year out of more thing make sure there isn't any ice built up in the fill tube to the ice maker,if the valve is bad sometimes water will drip through and it will freeze up in the line,if so melt it out with hair dryer but by sticking the jumper into the V and L should let you know if it's frozen, water should come out when you jump it if it is the ice maker.these are the easiest ways to check it or just change out both parts.

Whirlpool S/S Ref with Ice in Door - Mod # ED5FHEXMQ

Most fridges run a defrost cycle 2 or 3 times a day. When this is happening a normal pop and sizzle sound will be heard. Otherwise I will need more information. Ice makers need to be cold enough to dispense ice, but not to fill. If yours will not fill, it may be the water filter.
