Question about Asko Dishwashers

1 Answer

We are getting a grit on the dishes on the top rack. We have done many things to solve the problem. Running tang crystles, runing CLR through it, taking it apart to check for blockages, checking the impeller on the pump, blowing comprssed air through it, scrubbing the inside many times. The funny thing is it only happens about every third wash cycle or so. The upper spray arm is free with no obstruction. The dishes on the bottom rack are clean. We use Electosol and jet dry. Our water is softened and working perfect. We have used both the normal cycle and the pot cycle. We have checked both the intake and discharge hoses.

I submitted a partial answer, but not sure if you received it as the screen went blank, so I am re-submitting it. Our machine was purchased in 1998 and it was an Asko 001335. We have used Electrasol crystals and Jet Dry and also Electrasol 2 in 1 Gel. The problem has persisted wirh both methods and the grit looks the same with either method. It does not look like food particles. The grit is on the bottom inside of most glasses and cups but does not cover the outside of the dishes. Most dishes are covered or all are fine. It is not happening in a specific area of the shelf either. We have checked the machine and the top arm is spinning. Sure hope you can help. Look forward to hearing from you.

thank you for your solution to our dishwasher problem. I followed the instructions about the vinegar. The dishes appear to be clean. We have only done 3 loads since the treatment but I am hopeful this solved the problem. Just one question, how often can vinegar be repeated? I understand it can be hard on rubber hoses etc but if it safe to use this solution periodically I will do it. Appreciate your quick and detailed response to our problem

Hello again. 2 weeks ago I replied that our diswasher grit problem appeared to be fixed. Unfortunately that is not the case. The last 3 loads have all had the same grit on the dishes again, and again only on the top rack. I did run vinegar through the machine last Saturday as per your last instructions, but it did not help. I had grit on the load just before the grit problem and also on the two afterwards. Any more suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello John

Thanks for all the detail. It's far more than I usually get to start with, but please could you also answer the following quick questions:

- Are the particles hard and gritty or is it food residue?
- Is the upper spray arm spinning?
- Have you changed your detergent and/or tried a different detergent?
- Model number of the dishwasher.

Thanks,
BElectric

    Hi John,

Thanks for the information - have you removed the spray arms and had a look inside? You've tried using a Gel detergent, so it's unlikely to be a problem with the detergent not dissolving. As the particles are on the inside of the glasses, they are obviously arriving there via the spray arms.

You stated that the water softener was working correctly, but considering the age of the washer, I suspect there may still be build up of limescale somewhere - possibly inside the spray arms (or the delivery tubes) or on the heating element. I think this is breaking up and being sprayed onto your glassware and crockery, most likely from the upper spray arm.

I'd suggest checking the spray arms first. Next, put a cup of vinegar in the back corner of the washer and run the washer through empty on a hot cycle. Spin the lower spray arm before starting the washer to make sure it doesn't hit the cup. Finally, load the top rack with some glasses and mugs and run the washer through 3 times on a short/cool cycle and then check the glasses, etc for gritty particles.

The other possibilities are a build up of old detergent somewhere which is gradually breaking up or something in the dishwasher may be gradually disintegrating. Neither of these are going to be easy to find without disassembling the washer. It could also be coming from inside your water pipes, but there should be a filter on the water inlet valve to prevent gritty particles entering the dishwasher.

Please try the suggestions above then let me know the results.

    Regards,

    BElectric

    Hi John,

Good to hear back from you and glad it seems to be successful so far.

The acetic acid in vinegar isn't good for rubber - you certainly don't want to soak rubber seals in neat vinegar for any length of time. However, it's well diluted when you run it through the washer and it's circulating so it's not going to cause any problem.

It's probably worth descaling the washer a little more, so I would suggest running another empty hot wash with a cup of vinegar about two weeks after the first application, again a month later, then every 3 months, i.e quarterly / 4 times yearly. If the problem returns inside of 3 months, use the interval between the previous application and the problem returning to determine the ongoing interval between applications.

If the problem returns or persists, please post another message here and I'll be happy to assist you further. If you are happy with the assistance provided, I would appreciate it if you could accept my solution. This will not prevent you from posting further messages to me in relation to this problem.

    Good luck!

    Regards,

    BElectric

Help! The dishes on the top rack of my kitchenaid dishwasher (KUDS01FKPA0) don't get clean. this problem started last year, and two different things may be happening. A guy replaced a part (a screen with a...

The part he replaced (chopper) is a common problem with this particular machine. If he has removed all residual food particles from the machine, and you have done your part to rinse them thoroughly before loading, I doubt you have the same issue. There could be other possibilities. One: The water inlet valve could be restricting, thereby not allowing the the proper amount of water into the machine. Two: The internal pump impellers may be worn, and not propelling the water upward enough to reach the top rack. Hope this lends a little insight.

Dishwasher Leaving Food on Dishes After D/W's Done?

Buy Diswhasher Magic or TANG Orange Juice Powder. Empty out the dishwasher. Add a cup of TANG to bottom and run through a complete cycle. If you use D/W Magic, follow the directions on the box.

The citrus in the Magic or the TANG eats up all the grime and grease from the dishwasher and cleans out the spray arms and all the water flow parts on your unit that has collected over time.

Afterwards, you should have sparkling clean dishes free of grit and grime on your CLEAN dishes.

Dishwasher not cleaning dishes; water not coming out of top spray arm

You are right to go to the inlet filters. If they are clogged you would lose pressure, but not that much...The pressure pump is probably not outputting any longer. Locate it and see if it is moving freely.

We have run the dishwasher through several cycles, there is no water whatso ever getting to the top rack of dishes , the bottom rack is pretty clean but the top is dry like it has no water at all

Try unscrewing the top and middle arms and soaking them in vinegar or CLR to remove any calcification that could be blocking the spray holes. If that does not work there is a blockage somewhere between the middle and top water feed. and the entire casing needs to be taken apart to verify where it is.

Dishwasher is leaving soap on my dishes in top rack. Was using a gel soap heard that switching to a powder would solve this problem. Did not work. I also cleaned dishwasher with Tang kool-aid, but did not...

Do you have a water softener?

I recommend powder, cut back to a spoonful of soap and use a rinse aid.

Another good cleanout is water softener cleaner, as long as your tub is not metal.

Top rack washer arm isn't spinning and therefore not cleaning dishes in top rack, bottom works fine

You can replace the whole top assembly. And before you run the cycles again, try putting a cup of Tang (dry) orange juice through the cycle without any dishes or get some Dishwasher Magic and you'll have a sparkling new dishwasher once again! hope this helps you!

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.

TOP RACK DOESN'T RINSE

I would suggest you buy some CLR and run it through a full heavy cycle with the washer empty. Be sure to put it in all dispenser areas and sprinkle about 1/4 cup into the washer before starting.
