Question about Microwave Ovens

I am upset that I did an etching project and I accidently got some etching cream on my black granite counter tops. It looks like it is just discolored. But it sticks out like a sore thumb because it is "cloudy" white on my black counter. Is this fixable?

Is it a genuine GRANITE counter top??? I'm surprised an etching solution damaged it... what was the etching solution for, glass, metal??? to be honest I would try to find a spot of the counter top somewhere that is not showing and do some testing before addressing the visible spot, first replicate the issue with the etching solution at the hidden spot (or on some left over peace of counter), than try different cleaning solutions (ask an expert on granite counter tops) if it does not work try a polishing solution or even some acids could bring back the colour...

Good luck!

I tried this on a couple of etched spots on my Siletone countertop and it worked - Thanks! We suspect some crazy glue or acetone vapors went through the paper towels that were laid on the counter for protection, and these substances are the only things we have ever seen that affect Silestone.

You will be fine. No heat will be generated under the unit. The units are designed to be supported around the rim, usually only about 1/4" is required.

Wife smoked up the microwave now it has no power to it

If your M/W is a counter top model and you feel comfortable about removing the outer case the power supply should be fuse protected, open it up and search and check all fuses that you can find for any fuses that may have popped to protect that circuit when your wife accidently smoked whatever it was.Good luck and don't worry about radiation contamination inside the M/W just abide by the warning labels on internal parts!

I have a GE Profile JVM1790 microwave that needs to be installed. However, it will sit in front of a 3/4" thick granite backsplash that I would rather not drill holes through. Would it be safe to mount...

The front weight hangs from the cabinet above the microwave, the rear weight needs support also. It is intended to be fastened to two studs. If the granite does not go all the way up to the cabinet above, install a wood spacer, the same thickness as the granite, then extend the wall plate, at the corners, with some flat stock aluminum strips, available at most hardware stores. Fasten the aluminum strips to to wall plate with short machine screws. - If the granite goes up to the cabinet bottom, shim out the bottom frame of the cabinet to the face of the granite and use the same aluminum flat stock to extend the wall plate up to the necessary location.

I accidentally covered a plate with foil in the microwave. there was Arcing (no fire) and now there is black marks etched where the foil touched the sides. The cavity seems unharmed though, it seems if I...

Sometimes the arcing itself will cause black marks inside the oven. The places where the foil was melted, (touching), likely left small metal deposits, possibly now, impregnated in the surface. It is important to remove these if possible to avoid further arcing. Remove these then test to make sure the oven is functioning properly. If so, continue to use.

Hi, I have a GE counter top microwave (JES1651). It is just over two years old. It has worked flawlessly until two days age when my wife put in her tea cup to reheat it and shut the door. When the timer...

What usually breaks is the door open lever.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams here and order parts for less by entering the part number here.
