Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Coil element starts to light up then a small spark and pop noise comes from a small ceramic looking piece in the middle of the element then it shuts off. If I wait for a while and turn on the thermostat it will again start to light up and then spark and shut down. Any ideas how to fix this? Can I replace the coil element? My fireplace is a corner unit Dimplex Model # 6901860400

You have a PROBLEM that Dimplex USA, Technical Service wants to know about 888-346-7539. In the meantime, turn the Master Control Switch to OFF and unplug the unit. Do not use it again, until you have spoken with them.

Sorry I didn't have better news for you, but safety first.

Please be kind enough to rate my reply to you. Thanks!

6 cylinder keeps blowing spark plug out

this may be from incorrect fitment of the plug where the socket spanner is applying pressure on the ceramic piece causing it to crack . Next thing to consider the quality of the plugs you are using. I suspect that it is the way you are fitting them as no. six will be hard to get to and it would be easy to put pressure on the plug and not the base when tensioning it up

Popping sound coming from my panasonic NNCD997S

The following works better if done in "low light".

Put a cup of water or small bowl in the unit, close the door and turn the microwave on.

If there is anything that you can see in the cooking area, there should be sparking and it is coming from something metal, even a small piece of aluminum foil that was left behind. The thing causing the sparking needs to be removed.

If you hear the noise and it is coming from inside the area of the microwave that you cannot see then you can:

1 - Take it to a repair shop.
2 - Depending upon the cost for repair, consider buying a replacement.

If the noise is inside the machine DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE IT. Get it FIXED OR REPLACED for your own safety.

Good Luck

I was baking and heard a pop sound and saw a spark before the oven lost all power? What happened?

OOOPPs - not good , If you saw or heard a pop noise + spark then something blew or shorted.
If the 'loss' was quiet then a fuse or circuit breaker can blow without noise or sparks.
This oven has 4 Heating elements (2 on Grill) 2 inside oven , as you were baking it sounds like a heating element.
As this is a US model I'm assuming you are close to a SEARS somewhere, because they advertise parts made for Kenmore -- try this link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Evaporative-coil-Parts/Model-867813350/0582/1610510/00007536/00001

Check engine light says its the spark pugs/ wires/ or coil. We have changed the plugs and wires..but not coil yet. I have a loud clicking noise that is happening, it got louder after the wires was changed...

Since you have not replaced the coil look at the coil while the engine is running, listen for the click or popping noise, do you see a spark jumping from the coil to any surrounding metal surfaces, if so replace the coil, verify the noise and running problem go away. Hope this helps, let em know.

Saw sparks and heard a pop noise when we hit ''start'' on microwave

We just had the same problem - spark, loud noise, and then dead. At first I replaced the ceramic fuse and the same thing happened immediately. A local appliance store tested the transformer and found it was "bad." I purchased a used transformer from the store for about $35. I installed both of these myself with little effort.

How to check the spark plug is ok on a McCULLOCH PETROL CHAIN SAW MAC 436

Chain saws are still two-cycle engines (gas and oil mix) and they foul the spark plug pretty rapidly if not in perfect tune. Remove the spark plug and re-attach the wire and let the plug contact any metal part such as the cylinder head. Make sure the gas petcock is off and the start switch is on. Pull on the recoil starter and see if you have a spark jumping from the center electrode of the plug to the outer electrode of the plug. Clean and re-gap the plug and try it again. If no spark, the center electrode could be broken up inside the ceramic insulator and you can't see it. Try a new plug. If still no spark, another component of the simple electrical system could be bad. If your saw has a capacitor, change that out also. Sometimes the small coil that rides very close to the magnets on the flywheel comes out of adjustment. Proper gap for that is a small piece cut from a cereal box and placed between the coil and flywheel while re-tightening the coil bolts. Do not let the coil scrape on the flywheel. If any of this has helped, please rate accordingly. Good luck.

Lasko5840

The 5840 has a problem with dust getting on the heater element and turning itself off after 2 minutes running. HERE IS THE FIX. Unplug the unit from the AC outlet, Then using a can of dusting air ( the kind you use to clean a computer key board) aim the compressed air INTO the middle louver of the upper adjustable heater vent and blow out the dust that has gotten on the heater element. ( You are actually blowing into the unit, clearing off the lint/dust that has gotten on the backside of the heater element that you can not see without openning the entire case). You can see the front of the heater element inside the louvers, It's the shinny metal part that looks like a small radiator. It sits behind the middle louver. After blowing out the dust, shake the entire unit to allow the dust to settle to the bottom of the case. Using a vacum cleaner try to vacum out any dust from the LOWER FRONT intake. Once the dust has been blown OFF the heater element, the unit will work just as new and not shut itself down!

Goodman furnace

Check the roll out switch(s) and the lock out switches. They are a small disc looking about the size of a nickle, with with 2 wires attached on them. There will be a re-set button in the middle that resembles a small peg. Push this in to re-set. As the glow coil shorted out, the fuse on the control board may have blown. On the newer furnaces find the main board and look for a car type fuse. If blown, replace. You also have the symptoms of a bad limit switch, by the clicking noise (the heat fan relay) and the blower fan running instantlly.
