Question about Hayward Pool & Spa

1 Answer

After my pool filter runs all night and the timer turns it off. water backflows through the strainer ports and causes the system to have a vapor lock the following night if I don't prime the motor with some water. I just replaced the pump fileter because it had a crack as well as the O-ring for the pump basket. What am I missing?

If it is backflowing, there is a small air leak somewhere in the sytem. It could be inthe pump, the heater, the filter, and unions, underground, etc.
Dont even bother looking for it as these can take a long time to find. Just buy a standard check vavle and plumb it in line. This should stop all backflow scenarios.

I have a Hayward sp3400vsp. The pump runs all night some times, the screen say is priming, it will shot off manually, and it wont do it all the time. help??

Sounds like the pump is sensing that there is a problem with water flow on the suction side.

Could be caused by air being sucked into the system. Do you notice air in the strainer chamber? Or bubbles coming from the inlets in the pool?

Could also be caused by something clogging or restricting the suction line.

S210 discharge problem

If it is a vari-flow valve, this usually implies a bad gasket. With the valve set to "filter" and the pump OFF you can remove the screws on the top of the valve to check the gasket. It looks like a pie-chart, and usually called a "spider gasket". Check the gasket for tears or warps in the rubber, if you find any replace the gasket. A bad gasket will cause water to flow into different pipes. Turning the valve while the pump is running will cause these gaskets to fail

What causes a pool pump motor to overheat

Blocked or clogged water input line
Sucking air from a leak, not enough water thru system
Excessive debris in strainer baskets
Filter needs to be backwashed
Filter needs new sand or new cartridge
Filter needs to be taken apart and "fingers" cleaned
Filter Pump Impeller is obstructed
Filter motor is in-correctly wired
Filter motor bushings need replacement
Filter motor bearings are worn
Filter motor is "shot"

Motor is burning hot to touch, causing water in secondary trap/pump strainer to heat up. Also, noticed little to no air pressure in pool jets. What could be causing this issue?

Jason
this sounds as though there is no water going through the strainer into the pool. check the gate valves to make sure you have water going to the pump and that water can get back to the pool.
check and valves or backwash valve on the pool to make sure the filter is open to be able to let the water filter to the pool.
something is stopping the water flowing to the pump or preventing the water to move through the pump into the pool.

My pool heater rheem said clean filter and strainer. not turning on heat what should i do..to solve the problem and tell me how do i clean the strainer where it is location...

They are referring to the strainer basket inside the filtration pump, and the pool filter system itself. The indication is either this basket is full of debris or the pool filter is so dirty you do not have enough water flowing through the heater. A safety device in the heater is shutting down the heater to prevent damage. None of the parts you named are inside the heater.

It sounds like there was a lack of water to the reservoir, which is, I assume the inlet reservoir with the basket strainer in it.
1. Is your water level in the pool high enough to keep the reservoir full?
2. There is an o-ring or gasket on the reservoir cover, is it there and lubricated so there is no air leakage?
3. Put a garden hose into the open reservoir to see if the pump moves this water out.
Do all of this with the filter set to just go back to the pool so you can see the results.
Try this and comment back.
Good Luck,
Gary

If your pool has a skimmer system there is a hose from the bottom of the skimmer going to the suction port that goes through the pool wall. Disconnect the hose off of the blue adapter and unscrew the blue adapter there is a screen / strainer right there whatever gets pass the skimmer basket gets plugged up in that screen.

Water not clear

cloudy water is mainly due to poor pool maintainence.
Your purchase of the salt water system only helped you with not needing to pour chlorine in or float tablets.
You will still need to use chemecals.
I use a good stabilizer to hold the chlorine level longer
I use a non foaming algecide once a week
I also use a water clarifying product once a week

Now on to the clouds :-)

cloudy water is because of not enough sanitizer mixwd with a crappy pump from intex

I do not know the size of your pool so I will just use mine to show you #'s

I have a 7000gl pool with a 2500gl ph pump
A pool needs to be turned over at LEAST 3 times a day so for me it takes at least 8 hours of filtering alone this does not include making chlorine.
Bottom line is you should run your system 24/7 between generating and straight filtering

The only cure for less filtering is to get a sand filter with at least a 1 horse power pump to pump 4000gl and uphaving a sand filter helps trap more small particles than the cartridge filter.

I noticed the difference the first night I had my sand filter. It ran for 6 hours before me turning my pool light on and to my surprise I did not see as many particles passing my light as with the cartridge filter and the second night nothing Crystal clear.

Bottom line is intex pumps and so on are not big enough for the pool it comes with.

The salt system alone with a sand filter is great

If your pool has the skimmer system there is a hose coming from the bottom of the skimmer to the wall of the pool which would be your suction to the pump. Disconnect the hose clamp from the suction port that goes through the wall of the pool remove the hose then unscrew the blue adapter on the inside of the pool there you will find a strainer / screen. Whatever gets pass the basket in the skimmer get's plugged up in that screen causing the pump to starve for water causing the LOW FLOW sensor to go off on the Saltwater pump.

Let me know if this helps any.

How do i drain my pool with a hayward variflow pump?

To Flush out the filter with the backwash setting. The backwash setting releases trapped particles from the filter back into the swimming pool. You may need to alternate between the rinse and backwash settings until the water runs clear in order to unblock your filtration system and flush out clogs. To Rinse away dislodged items from the backwash setting. The rinse setting flushes clean water through the pipes and carries away any particles or clogs freed during the backwashing. To Drain the pool select waste on the multiport valve. This sends the water directly to the drain rather than back into the swimming pool. Close the filtration equipment and stop the pump with the closed setting. You should only use the closed setting when you turn the pump off. This function allows you to remove the strainer basket, clean the filter tank and perform other swimming pool maintenance on the filtration system.
