Is your XP a 64 bit or 32 bit version??? if it's 32 bit than a 32 bit system does NOT support more than 3.5 Gb of RAM... if it's the case I know for a 32 bit LINUX version there's a PAE extension you can install but I'm not sure about XP 32 bit... and your computer architecture (CPU, BIOS AND BOARD) must support PAE...

Good luck!

32bit XP only supports up to 3.25gb RAM. You'd have to change to a 64bit OS to use the rest.

Good luck.

Ms 6367 ver 1 0

1) The MSI ms-6367 version 1.0 motherboard, was made especiallly for HP desktop computers.
(MicroStar International)

It is not an MSI -> O.E.M motherboard.
(Original Equipment Manufacturer)
Therefore, ONLY HP would have a BIOS update for this board, and not MSI..........

2) The original Processors used were AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Maximum frequency rate, (Excuse me, 'Speed'), is 1.67GigaHertz.
(1.67GHz)
Front Side Bus frequency rate is 266MegaHertz.
(FSB = 266MHz)

You are trying to use an AMD 'Sempy' processor, that has an FSB of 333MHz.
This = No.

Why?

Because, even if you could somehow boost the FSB up to 333MHz, your ram memory would not work anymore, and your expansions slots. (i.e., PCI, AGP, etc)

(Change Voltage for processor {CPU}, or change Multiplier; in BIOS Setup utility. This would change the FSB)

Ram memory typically operates at Half of the processor's FSB.

3) I realize all you may have around is a Sempron, but let me post some facts;

A) The AMD Sempron, and the Intel Celeron are BUDGET processors. Also known as Starter processors.......
Why?

Because both have less Cache, than per se a comparable AMD Athlon XP processor, or Intel Pentium 4 processor.

(AMD Athlon XP compared to AMD Sempron;
Intel Pentium 4 compared to Intel Celeron)

What is Cache for a processor?
It is a small memory area for the Processor, and operates at the same frequency rate, ('Speed'), as the Processor.
Therefore it is the first memory area the Processor accesses.

[Ram Memory is next, then the Harddrive.
Mechanical harddrive, or Solid State.

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/computer-hard-drives-disks-channel.htm ]

A crude example if I may;

You are writing a thesis for college.
You find as you go along, that you need some additional information.
Where is it?
Down in the basement, in a box of books, last book on the bottom.
Oh, and there is NO basement light........

Down you go, flashlight in hand. Dig through the box of books, and retrieve the book you desire.
Now back up the steps, and open the book to the page you want.

OR,

You press a few keys on the computer keyboard in front of you, and have your needed info in seconds........

Less Cache = Basement scenario
More Cache = Computer scenario

I would drill a hole through that 'Sempy' processor, and make it into a necklace. (Wouldn't wear it though! lol!)

Jus sayin'.

Ram won't work

and old A rig from the dust bins at goodwill.
NO OS stated, nor BIOS version stated at BIOS info page.
and matters.
I'll assume there is no OS and just BIOS fails.
Leave bios in auto on DDR2. for sure.

getting good ram for old PC is not easy
you do know the old MMC (mem manager controllors)
stuck then right,> on density and type not just simple speed and fits slot. very complex that.
the sticks have ID chips that the BIOS uses to set them up
if the BIOS dont like your mem sticks it will never work.
The BIOS will run at the slowest speed of the slowed stick installed.

first ill attempt to read you PC full spec.
HP dont have it now , its gone to dead legacy mode. deleted the books.
looks like its 11 years old.
2006 made, oops not good
Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ 2.0 GHz
The Atholon sets these rule(unlike pentium 4s)
on memory.
if you read the data sheet on it its very restrictive.
it does support 4x1gb,
Kingston memory pages i bet fails to help you , i bet.
they dont make them now. so..... leaving only fleabay used mem.
not good that.
PC2-4200 MB/sec
240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM
430 rules next , the HP pages are gone and the qualifed DDR pages with it... making , help on any Legacy box very hard.
but I do have facts on MMC
The BIOS rules ARE HPs and are now lost in the sands of time.

in most cases if you try each stick 1 by 1, on bank 0
if any stick fails in BIOS that stick is bad or not for the
Athlon 64 X2

The Athlon like all old processors even i3 and i5
have rules on max size per stick
max for all banks.
and chip density rules per stick
and even some can not run sticks with chips on both sides.
this is due to data bus capacitance rules too (limits)

why mess with this old air box.
why not get a modern 2 core mobo, say and I7 or
FX amd 2 core.

off hardware secrets page. (oxymoron)
Used by Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron (some models) processors. On these models the embedded memory controller supports DDR2-533, DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 memories at dual channel configuration, meaning that the CPU accesses the memory at 128-bit rate if an even number of memory modules is used. Keep in mind that the memory controller found on socket 754, 939 and 940 CPUs supports only DDR memories.
you are running at
2.0 GHz 10x 5div = 800 MHz memory rate.

if we had the missing HP manual on memory
you would see a complex set of rules for population.
1 or 2 channel mode.
the Athlon chip maker and the mobo designer sets these rules.

try these,. they have a warranty

http://www.memorystock.com/memory/HewlettPackardPavilionA1700N.html

with 32bit os, the memory will show as 3GB (or tad more
never 4gig.

Driver for Teac FD-505 Combo Floppy Drive?

You may have to enable 'A' drive through the bios. Depending on the bios, you need to hit F1 or F2 or F10 at initial start up. You can hit all three at once and get into the bios. Then navigate your way through the bios to find where to enable and disable drives.

Pick your OS, download the "System & Chipset Drivers", then do driver install from "SMU" subfolder. I know this question is old but it is showing in search engines. Hope it works for those that find it.

A7V266E/AA MB CPU

The Ol' Asus A7V266-E?
1.The fastest Front Side Bus setting is 266MHz
2.Uses Socket 462 AMD processors
3.Uses Athlon, Athlon XP, and Duron AMD processors.

I would stick with an AMD Athlon XP. Fastest one? Hmmm, I believe that would be the AMD Athlon XP 2600+
The one that operates at 2133MHz with a FSB of 266MHz. Part number AXDA2600DKV3C
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors#Athlon_XP_.22Thoroughbred_A.2FB.22_.28Model_8.2C_130_nm.29

Here is the Motherboard Manual for your Asus A7V266-E, (It's a PDF file download. Let it download all the way before looking through it)
http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/1/a7v266e-100.pdf

If the above direct link does not work for you, then go here,
http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/manuals/ASUS/A7V266-E/ (Click on -> Download <- all the way to the right of -> File:a7v266e-100.pdfVersion:--Release Date:--)

Go to Page 19, Item 2. NO POWER connected to computer, make sure the SYSCLK (System Clock) DIP switches are set to 133MHz.
1, 2, 3, and 4 are set to the OFF position for 133MHz.
All you will see is the ON. The switches go to the opposite side as shown in Item 2.

I'm sure they are set there however, as your 1900+ you have in right now, uses a 266MHz FSB.
I should explain.
AMD processors are Double-Pumped. Therefore the 133MHz setting will become 266MHz for the processor. (Intel processors are Quad-Pumped.

They are both the same Core, (Thoroughbred A/B, Model 8, 130nm), so a BIOS update shouldn't be necessary.
