MS-SBS 2003, Exchange Mail Boxes. I have a number of old mailboxes still showing in my mailbox store. The user accounts for almost all of these old mailboxes have been deleted. How can I delete the mailboxes themselves?

    So there is no way to delete them before that? I have a bit of storage issue and my archiver license has been exceeded because we just added 7 new emails. These 7 new email addresses put us over our 50 user archiver license and I don't want to upgrade. Isn't there a way to delete them real time?

    I think I am using the exchane mailbox manager utility, isn't it just called "Exchange System Manager" ? I have that open and I'm looking at the mailbox store, that is where I still see the mailbox information, but they are not folders and I can't delete the line items I see there. Is there a way for me to send you a screen shot to verify what I am referring to?

    Thanks but this seems to be a procedure to remove all the mail boxes, I just want to remove a select few, most of the terminology referred to in this procedure is way over my head. I guess there is just no way to remove an individual mail box from the store.

    I see purge as a selection when I right click but it is not a selectable item, Reconnect and Purge are bot there but grayed out. Any suggestions on how to make them selectable?

    I am logged in as the administrator, forgive me but who would have more rights that that? Are there a special set of rights for exchange that may not have been set up correctly or gotten dumped out somehow over time?

    Well, Thanks but even the mailboxes with current accounts do not allow me the option to purge or reconnect. It must be some knid of rights issue, but I don't where to go to establish those rights.

In the exchange manager right click each box you wish to remove and click purge. this should remove them fully. I never tried it with more than one at a time so you may have to do it one at a time.

    If purge is not there, then you do not have the rights. I would suggest checking your username account rights and permissions.

    ok since you have the rights this is due to the mailboxes not having accounts attached to them. The console will grey out reconnect and purge. sorry for the misunderstanding prior. You will need to create a new active directory account and associate the mailbox each tot he accoutn and purge them then delete the account.

    I'm more of a Linux user but I have a SBS 2003 set up in a virtualbox with a 2003 exchange running on it (for testing OWA) and usually when I delete a user account in the active directory it deletes the mail box and the data after a while, (file replication service) but have you looked in the exchange mailbox manager utility??? try deleting the user data folder... (or remove it and store some place els) for backup... have you DELETED the user or just DESABLED it in active directory???


    Also GFI MailArchiver will never automatically delete
    emails which have been archived unless these are affected by a retention
    policy. When a user is deleted from Active Directory, GFI MailArchiver
    can be configured so that archived emails for the deleted user can be
    viewed by another user. The following knowledgebase article explains how

How to get access to the old Outlook box?


You must deleted this mailbox in this new user. in the vault on an old box appears red cross. make it reconnect. select for what user and all. (here there are only remote users or remote users mailboxes). in the client, delete the exchange account. and then create again a box and all is fine connects. Made autonomous folders.
If that does not help, then just try to convert the file .ost to .pst and import it into a new box. This can help you a great Recovery Toolbox for Outlook

E-mails are multiplying on their own, I can not delete them


There is a problem with how the POP3 connector processes certain
messages downloaded from a POP3 server. This problem could result in
the POP3 connector accidentally re-sending certain messages to
recipients who are not part of the SBS server e-mail domain.
This may happen only in the cases where the POP3 connector is used to
download mail from an external POP account. Customers using Exchange
to host their mail internally will not experience this problem. This
update resolves this issue.

Exchange 2003 issue


How to change Mailbox Size in Exchange 2003:

Open up the Server Management Console, then expand the Exchange Server Settings (usually named "Your Organisation - Exchange").
Then browse to the Servers and then "Your Server",
then to the First Storage Group, and then right click -> properties on the Mail Box Store.
This then brings up the properties for the Mailbox Store.
Click on the "Limits" Tab.
You will notice that you have the limits now displayed in KB - change the limits to your desired size, and click OK.

How to change Individual Mailbox sizes in Exchange 2003:

Go into Active Directory Users and Computers
Right click on the User account you want to change their mailbox limit for
Then go to the Exchange General Tab, and click on Store Limits button
Unckeck the Use Exchange store defaults box, and set desired amounts

New to exchange server 2003


Hello there!
First things First!
1) you always going to have problems with exchange servers, or migrations. ** systems are not perfects**
2) You can migrate the emails to the new server, but, if only are in the correct version of Exchange 2003.
3) if backup is damage or fail, you lost everything.
4) try to reinstall the Server, and all utilites, is better, I know takes more time, but is better because you created yourself.
I suggest you to install from scratch!
