Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Samsung PCL5415R. The timer light blinks 9 times and I have sound, but there is no picture. I Replaced the blue bulb and the main board, there is still no picture. When I started the picture was fuzzy and the thought then was that the blue bulb was going out, After replacing it the tv worked for about 30 min and then no picture. What is wrong with my tv. Like I said the light blinks 9 times and that is the only help that I have.

9 blinks signal that the power source is in protected mode. This happens because one of the big consumers has started acting like a short.
Since you had a fuzzy picture and then none it can be only a single cause: the high tension / flyback transformer has failed and it will have to be replaced.

No, it's not the power supply, it's the flyback transformer - the one that generates the high tension to the tubes. Finding one will be difficult - at present i couldn't find any online.

Remove your new bulb and examine the connector carefully. The inexpensive replacement bulbs tend to arc and ruin your $700 ballast; sad to say. If everything looks good, make sure the interlock switch on the bulb cover opening is engaging. It won't fire up if it thinks that door is open.

You may also have a problem with the convergence. There are three color cans that project the image on the screen. A red one, green one and a blue one. The blue one is the one that you should try and adjust. Have you tried to realign the convergence yet? You should be able to go into the menu setting and locate this option is is typically done using the remote. What you will see is some cross marks starting in the center and move to the four coners. When you adjust it you will want to align all three (red, green and blue) crosses where neither color is more prevalent. If you are unable to get the blue can to align with the others, there is a problem with the convergence board. These boards or ICs can be replaced, if you have a repairman fix it your looking at around $250 - $400. If you would like to fix it yourself you can get the parts from...

No Picture - Sound

I just had this problem fixed. In my case, it was because the insulation on the CRTs was cracked, and when it would warm up, the shielding would separate and would let 5000 volts arc across the main board. This, obviously, damaged the board. The tech didn't catch the arcing right away, so they replaced the main board twice before they used a high-temp RTV to patch the insulation.

The power-cycling was a result of the damaged board.

The point of this story is that the broken part may be a symptom of the real problem.

I hope this helps someone!

Samsung 54" rear projection PCL5415R Won't Turn On

Although I am not incredibly familiar with your model, There is most likely a small board mounted above the others near the crts, there is a small red connector with a blue wire if you unhook it it will remove power from the convergence IC's and if they are shorted it might come up with conv out, will need a new module.
