My dyson won't turn on when plugged in ..seems problem with prongs on plug

It seems that it could be a problem with your power cord. I would start by checking to make sure it is good. If so, then check the switch next.

No power to switch. ts there a reset button?

Check the power plug cord, might be bent so often that the internal wire)s) are broken. You can cutoff old plug and replace with new one.

It is either your power cable, cable rewind mechanism or your motor.
Try switching it on, and wiggling the lead near the plug and see if it fires up. If it does, remove the moulded plug and fit a standard plug.
If not, likely suspect is the motor or the cable rewind mechanism. Neither are an amateur job. If you are in the UK, you could send it to Manchester Dyson for either to be fixed. Carriage will cost you about £10 each way. A motor replacement will cost around £65 and a cable rewind mechanism about £45-£50.

I have a Dyson vacuum. The vacuum won't stay

My vacuum had this exact same problem, but was out of warranty because it was remanufactured. Thankfully, it's a very quick, five-minute fix.
  1. UNPLUG The Vacuum!
  2. Remove the cannister.
  3. Extend the handle and remove it.
  4. Remove the two torx (T-15) screws behind the power button, where the handle normally stows.
  5. There are four tabs holding the front plate containing the power button on; use your screwdriver to release them.
  6. Gently pull the front plate off.
  7. The switch on the right is the power button. Remove it, try clicking it a few times; if it sticks, great! Replace it and reassemble, otherwise you'll need to replace it.

Will not turn off

From most reports, sounds like Dyson makes a good vacuum cleaner. However, things can and will break. Sounds like your power switch is defective, or has become fouled. I am not aware of any recalls involving this particular problem.
If brusque treatment of power switch (off and on quickly) does not yeild a result, then it it will have to be repaired. Hopefully under warranty.

I CAN refer you to the Dyson support website:
http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp

In the mean time, plugging, and unplugging will have to suffice while you contact Dyson.

Dyson dc14 vacuum cleaner ,the power, off-on switch does not work

Take it back - the power on switch button sounds like its being tempramental and it shouldn't do that. It would have to be repaired.

My dyson will not stay on when i press the button.

OK...so while I'm sure that hitting the power button w/ a mallet will work...I was having the same issue and felt uncomfortable hitting my very expensive Dyson w/ a mallet.
Here is what I did to fix the problem I have a DC17...I am sure instructions will vary by model Here is what you will need: 1. flat head screw driver 2. Torx -15 screw driver.
1. remove the dust tank  2.Pull the extension tube (handle) out (as if you were going to  vacuum a tight area.  3. there are 2 torx screws that you will have to remove 4. there are 4 retaining clips that you will use the flat head screw driver to unlatch.   5. After you remove the torx screws and release the 4 retaining clips, the front panel (that houses the power button) can be removed.  6. This will expose the actual power button itself.  Most likely it was jammed. 7. Once you think you have fixed it...test out your fix. 8.  If fixed...reassemble

First, check your outlet for power...plug something else in. Then, inspect the cord and check the power switch. You can use a multimeter to test across the power plug of the vacuum in the ohms position. Turn the switch off and on. If it does not change readings...the switch or cord is bad. If it does, it might be the motor.
