The CCD (image encoder) is most probably failing. It could be the CCD itself or the solder connections going to it. There is also a SLIM chance that it's a problem with the ribbon cable between the CCd and mainboard. If you are VERY mechanically inclined, have a set of jewelers scredrivers and are VERY careful AND patient, you could take it apart and see if all the cables are properly seated, but I would suggest a service shop, as it's REAL easy to break or tear very important parts.

Hi. When I power up my Canon A75 to take a picture, the screen is purple, not black. Is this also a sensor problem? Also when the camera is turned on or off, the lens retraction or extension mechanism...

The purple screen is also an indication of sensor failure, However, the odd noise could any of a number of things from sand/gunk in the gear mechanism, a damaged tooth on a gear, etc... But still, recommend that you contact Canon to arrange the advisory free repair (with free shipping) of the sensor. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

Image saves as random purple/ green patterns

Your CCD chip in the camera is defective. There is a lot of information on the web regarding this phenomenon. Here's a link to much of that info, http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1128958202.html
Note that the info is getting a little outdated now, as this problem has been identified and rectified. It only appeared in cameras that are now about six years old.

Suddently my photos have too much purple and are grainy.

To start remove camera battery for one minute, this will reset settings to factory.

If pictures are all purple and shady , and this is not a setting problem , then it is usually a bad CCD sensor.

On many models (depending on year) CCD sensor repair will be entirely covered by Canon. Give them a call to check it out.

All images are vignetted

Recently my Fuji S20 pro pictures started to look like purple and green blurred water colour images. Sometimes there is horizontal lines in the pics. like when your printer stars to get low on toner. I called customer service. They said to send it in. My cost. They will send an estimate if I want it fixed i pay. If I do not and want it back they will charge me $25 to get it back. Or they will keep it and recycle it. How kind of them!!!

Purple lcd display

Hello tonyj111, If your old pictures look fine on the display, then the problem is related to the ccd sensor itself. The purple color is displayed because of a problem in the signal transmision from the ccd sensor to the camera's main processor. This is done using 3 channels one for each primary color (RGB red green blue). If the connector to the sensor is broken, or got out of place (loose) because some mechanic shock or symilar, the data processing woun't come out right. It is purple because your camera's processor mess up blue and red signals therefore resulting same purple instead of blue or red colours. In order to fix this you will need to either send the camera to a service center to have those connections checked (if your camera is still in warranty you will want to do this) or ask me for further instructions if you wish to try to dissasemble the camera yourself. In either way the problem is fixable and in most probabilities a cheap fix will work. Good luck

Pink Edges in Photos

It is called 'purple fringing' or chromatic aberration. It is quite common with digital cameras, especially those with small sensors. Sending the camera in for repair would not help at all. It can be removed, quite labouriously, in photoshop. Usually it is very seldom so obvious that it would require corrective work. When it is, it is often only in a small part of the image making it not that time consuming to fix in photoshop.
