The clutch may be the problem. The belts are in the clutch and they lose elasticity and don't turn the brush fast enough when on the carpet. When the clutch is working properly you will hear a loud ratcheting sound when something is restricting the brush roll to stop it from turning. If you don't hear the ratcheting noise when the brushroll is restricted it means the belts are slipping.

The green light on my Kirby Ultimate G is not on but brush is spinning suction is pick stuff up. Is there a light bulb or a bigger problem?

You are referring to the green led light on the front of the machine that tells you the brush is rotating? this is operated by a small magnet on the brush roll, when rotating it generates a small current to bring the light on. Remove the brush roll and check for damage behind the green led inside the case, also check for the magnet on the brush roll, ensure it is not missing and the brush roll is in the correct way round, magnet needs to be at green led end (ie to the left)
Magnet is fitted flush within the brush roll close one end and is around 6mm 1/4" diameter.
Green light not working will not affect the machine in any way.

The brush is not rotating

The belt is broken.Turn the machine so you are looking at the brush. The plate on the bottom of the vacuum needs to come off. Most are screwed, some plates just pop on.Remove the plate and then the brush. The belt fits in a groove on the brush. The other end fits on a small wheel about 6 inches back from the brush.

If their is problem with the sucction, you should clean or replace the bag seen inside your vaccum cleaner
If any basic part of your vaccum cleaner lost excludes brushes and cleaners you can't use it.

My dyson has lost suction and the brushes do not rotate

Sounds like a broken belt may have been pulled up into the machine. Plan on replacing the belt and cleaning the beater brush. Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt if needed, making sure the belt is put on properly.

No suction in hose

Remove the machine side of the hose--is there suction at the machine? If so, run a broom handle or similar through the hose to dislodge the clog. If no suction at the machine, you may need to fish out debris with a hooked stiff wire from the port. Remove the bag and examine the port area underneath for similar clogging. Finally, check the brush area underneath the machine bottom plate for more obstruction. Also, check the brush assembly for debris accumulation. Remove the drive belt and check for free turning of the brush. If turns hard, remove the brush, clean the bearings and roller pins, then apply a small quantity of light oil like 3-1 or sewing machine oil. Hope this helps!

Installing a belt

1. Unplug the vacuum
2. Take the bottom cover over the brush off by removing the 3 screws
3. Switch the brush roll control lever to bare floor
4. Take the roller brush out
5. Put the belt around the small pulley from the motor
6. As you are putting the roller brush back in put the belt around the space on the roller brush - center the belt on that space - THE BELT WILL NOT BE TIGHT BUT THAT'S NORMAL
7. Reinstall the bottom cover with the 3 screws

THE BELT DOES NOT GO AROUND THE SILVER PULLEY CONNECTED TO THE BRUSH ROLL CONTROL LEVER

Vaccum cleaner needs belt put on and i have belt, but can't figure out where it goes except that it is over the rotator wheel from there i am lost and i have no manual

Wish you had given your model number because they are different. On some, the belt goes over the motor shaft, then over the brush roll. Some you have to remove he top cover to get to the motor shaft. Some go over the motor shaft, then over the bigger pully, but then there is a 2nd belt that goes over the small pulley, then over the brush roll. Hope this helps, if not, then give me the model number.
