Question about Dell A940 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

A940 will not scan

The "All in one" software freezes and the console buttons will work but always tries to Scan To Fax regardless of what is selected. I suspect a controller in need of replacing.

Scan wont work on mac psc 1410v

First are you trying to scan using the scan button on the all-in-one or from the computer? If you are trying to use the scan buttons, you need to install the HP full-feature software package: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=458978#N193 . (If you need to expand the section marked drivers.) Uninstall the printer and disconnect the data cable before installing this full software.

If you installed the basic drivers that came with the Mac OS, you can scan using Apple Preview and Image Capture software. You can also acquire a scan from the Print & Fax > Printer browser. Open the software from the dock or from the Applications folder. In Apple Preview, choose File > Import from Scanner. In the Image Capture program select the all-in-one from the list of devices.

For the Print and Scan. Open System Preferences from the Apple Menu. Click Print & Fax and select the all-in-one. Click the Scan tab and Open Scanner. Then click Scan.

With the HP software you can launch a scan from the computer or from the scanner (but only if the monitoring program is running). You need to set up the HP Utility for the scan task manager.
This site has the full set of steps: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02456650&tmp_task=useCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=458978#N2158 .

Sometimes an all-in-one will work for printing but not for scanning due to a damaged cable. Scanning requires bi-directional communication with the printer. Try replacing the data cable. If you use a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection to the computer.

I hope this helps.

I cant scan pictures to my laptop it just keeps saying connecting to pc but never uploads

Do you have the full featured software installed on the computer and set up with the default destinations? Is the monitoring program listening for the scan button being pressed? Can you launch a scan from the computer? Uninstall a generic OS driver that you may have installed and disconnect the data cable (if USB) before attempting to install the full software.

Try a new data cable (scanning requires bi-directional communication and can fail even when the printer works). Try a direct connection if you have a print server or a USB hub in place. Try using a different port and check if a known working device works as well.

Next launch the scan from the computer. Depending on your software, you may see a preview scan. Adjust the settings and try to get the full scan. If you get a failure at this point, it is frequently a cable issue.

I hope this helps.

(if the full-featured software is not available for your OS from your scanner manufacturer, then you will always need to launch the scan from the computer. WinXP, Vista and Win7 all can obtain scans with Paint (File

I've recently reinstalled the software for my Dell A940 All-In-One printer. It prints fine. It scans fine. But...when using the software--Dell All In One Center on the computer--when I try to...

Hi! Thats odd... Try this, Select properties and maybe you can select a tool to correct this. The scan destination may be disabled or maybe you should need to select the browse button to select the destination of the scanned material. Hope this helps and have a good one!

My scan button does nothing. How can I scan?

Hello,

When you press the "scan" button on the lexmark, the scanner is trying to connect to a specific software program that in this case you may not have installed.

You will want to try to test the scanner driver directly.
For windows XP and Vista, try the following.

1. Open your start menu
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select "scanners and cameras"
NOTE: for windows Vista, make sure you are in "classic view" to see scanners and cameras.
4. Check whether there is the lexmark listed in this window.

For windows 7, you will need to do something a little different.

1. Open your start menu
2. go to All programs
3. Open "windows Fax and scan"
4. Click on "new scan".
5. Check whether there is the lexmark listed in this window.

If there is no lexmark, you need to check the lexmark website for drivers. If the lexmark is there, try double clicking the icon to run the scan wizard.

Thanks,

Pat

Trying to scan a picture to my computer

Scarlet, I have a mid 2007 iMac and find that the MX310 does not always behave with OS X Leopard. To scan via software. Turn on the printer. Select SCAN from the printer. Press either PRINT (Black or Color) buttons on the printer. A fax - scan icon will appear in the dock and a window will open allowing you to fax. Now comes the problem. Often it will not scan the first time, I almost always get the message ¨SCAN FAILED¨ the first time I scan. Just click scan again without touching the printer will usually work. Sometimes I have to play with the settings on the left side of the scan window, switching between duplex and simplex or B & W and color and back. Usually this frees up what ever is stuck. Once it works, it works! After the scan, quit the scan and save to either a PDF or one of the photo file types (JPEG, TIFF, etc.) The results wind up in the PICTURES folder under the name of the printer and then the current date.
