Probably not if it is high wattage amplifier

PC power supplies dont have enough amperage to run an amplifier

it is 12 volts but only a few amps

voltage is like turing on water in your sink amperage is like how hard you turn the water on you wont have enough 'flow' from a PC powersupply - sorry

good idea though!

if it is very low power amplifier you might be able to get it running

try it worst thing that will happen is that the fuse in the power supply will blow

Hi I have a car amp in my room which is hooked up

Car amplifiers cannot be powered by laptop power supply. These amplifiers have different power ratings. You need to check the Car amplifiers power requirements / rating (Voltage & Current requirements) and then get a power supply with the exact same Power ratings. If the power supplied to the amplifier is less than the rated power it needs, it will not be able to drive the amplifier IC's and transistors in the amplifier and will not produce good sound.
Please check the power requirements for the amplifier and buy a suitable external power supply for it.

Kenwood amp kac 7495

GND is for a ground wire, run from frame of amp to frame of computer, and frame of UPS unit. I presume UPS means Uninterpretable Power Supply, a battery power backup. If you mean USB, the wire that accessories to the computer use, I doubt it. If it does have an USB port, it should be ok to check it out.

Can i run my xplode amp from my pc

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Yes you can... but, this will cause you a lot of hassle. You'd need to get yourself an AC/DC converter because your amp needs 12 volts. Do not use your computer's power supply unit for the 12volt input as your amp eats up alot of power so you might overload your computer's power supply unit (PSU). After getting the AC/DC converter for your amp. You need to rewire your audio input going to the amp so that it uses a 3.5mm jack so you can easily plug it in to your computer's audio output. I hope this helps.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Whister 1200 Inverter

if the inverter is wired to a lighter socket then you do not have enough power as lighter sockets are generally limited to 100-150 watts. If you are using the supplied battery clamps, then is the vehicle running to supply enough power to run your TV?

MOST OF THE TIME AMPLIFIED BOXES ARE EASYER THAN REG AMPS, ALL U HAVE TO DO IS RUN UR RCAS FROM THE BACK OF UR HEAD UNIT TO THE AMP, THAN UR POWER LEAD, FROM UR BATTERY TO THE AMP, THEN UR GROUND MOSTLY ON THE FRAM OF THE CAR OR ON THE BRACKETS ON UR SEATS, THATS MAINLY ALL U NEED TO NO.

Can not get power to my pyle amplifier

Usually On Car Amplifiers, there is a Connector/Wire called "Remote On".
This is where Headunit supplies 12V to trigger the Power on the Amplifier.
(Of course, head unit usually has Remote Wire also in order to turn the Amplifier on).

If this wire is properly connected and still does not turn on, then try to supply 12V directly from the battery. If it turns on then your head unit has problem, If it does not turn on then your Amplifier has problem.

Trying to power a amp with 16 volts. possible?

Golf carts do not have a charging system. If you are going to use battery power only, why not just add (1) 12V car battery instead of (2) 8V??

MA Audio runs (ran) their bench tests @ 17V. All the power ratings advertized are at 17V.

The power supply for the hk4000D is unregulated. So the more voltage = more power.. 8V-16VDC.

  • RMS Power @ 14.4V
    • 1800W x 1 @ 4 Ohm
    • 3600W x 1 @ 2 Ohm
  • RMS Power @ 17.0V
    • 2000W @ 4 Ohm
    • 4000W @ 2 Ohm
More input voltage means the amplifier will have to work less hard to make power.
Don't expect the amplifier to work for very long however. the current drain on a class D amplifier is huge. There are no on-board fuses protecting the power supplies, so be sure to have at lease a 150A power line fuse.
With 150A current draw - even with the amplifier at 1/2 gain - expect to get 10.6 minutes of listening time from your 16 volts before recharging - also note, the amplifier MUST see 8V to turn on, there is a built-in voltage sensor that will shut down the amplifier if voltage is too low.

You may need a new power supply inside amp. If you where running speakers with to many watts it will burn up the power supply. Try unplugging all wires. Replug them in also check fuse underhood and inside amp

Need to know average amperes need to run at moderetly loud level

Go by the fuse rating on the amplifier as a default. i.e. - If on amp has a 40 amp fuse on the outside and another has a 30 amp fuse on the outside, then you need to supply at least 70 amps of current. the formula works like this: amps X volts = watts. Doing the math here, for an amp to produce 1000w of power @ your vehicle's 12v power, you need 83 amps of current. Most cars produce 14v from the alternator when running, so this is really only needing 71 amps. Make sure your car's alternator can supply the excess current when running. Most modern amplifiers are efficient enough to produce their wattage with even less current than that.
