Hello and welcome to FixYa.

Your problem seems to be with your on-board wireless adapter of your laptop. If I was in your position, I would borrow a USB wifi adapter from someone, install it on the laptop and try to connect with it on the same router.

This will help you to determine exactly where the problem is (router or wifi adapter of computer).
In the case that you can't find a borrowed wireless dongle anywhere, please follow the steps below:

1. Related to drivers issue --> Please go to computer->properties->device manager and check for any yellow exclamation marks or wireless or network adapters missing. If drivers are missing or need updating, download/install from here (Acer One uses atheros chipset for wireless).
More info on this matter can be found at -->this link.

2. Related to IP settings--> please run the command prompt (Goto Start-->type in the search box for vista or win7 "cmd" and open the command prompt. or Goto Start-->Run..-->type in run "cmd" for winXP). Then type in the following commands in order specified:

ipconfig /release (wait until it completes, check for error messages etc.)

then...

ipconfig /renew (wait until it completes, check for error messages etc.)
Alternatively, in windows7 or vista you can go to "manage network connections" section from Start-> Control Panel, find the wireless network adapter and right click, then click "Diagnose". This does the same thing as the two commands above more or less.

3. Check for alternative network interfaces that might have been previously installed and might cause problems during connectivity and disable them. (Eg: vmware virtual adapters, Hamachi, vpn adapters etc..)

Please let me know how that went for you.

Regards from fixya team.

We just bought an aspire one acer laptop. Trying to conect to a netgear router. Help!?

11_27_2011_2_59_33_am.gif
If you are trying to connect the computer to the router with a cable the above diagram should help to explain the simple broadband signal path from the Ethernet or telephone wall socket, to the router and from the router to the computer's RJ45/Ethernet port. Once the computer is connected to the router by a cable is connected to a telephone wall socket or a ERJ45/Ethernet wall socket that has a 'always on' broadband internet signal coming into it, nothing else is required -> launch the Web Browser.
If you are connecting wirelessly the wall socket to the router part of the setup is the same but no cable is required between the router and the computer.
Enable the wireless function in your netbook, click on the image of two computers bottom right near the clock -> view available networks/connect to network -> click on the appropriate Netgear router signal -> connect -> launch the Web Browser.

Acer aspire onw - has signal with wireless connection but will not connected when clicking on browser

Connecting to wireless signal is not the same as connecting to the internet. Verify the wireless router itself is connected. Your internet provider may be off line.

Have an acer Aspire One netbook and for some reason I cannot connect to the internet even though it is saying that a wifi connection has been established. This has never happened before

If you are connecting on an open WiFi (does not have WEP or WPA enabled), then make sure you are connected to the correct SSID (wireless ID) and not on some other open SSID. If you are on the right SSID, check that you don't have limited connectivity due to low signal strength. If OK, then open Internet Explorer to use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool...
1. click on Tools tab
2. click on Diagnose Connection Problems...
3. click on Next button and follow the steps
If unsuccessful, try powering off the wireless router and the cable/dsl modem for a few minutes and then powering up the modem first followed by the wireless router. Once the netbook has re-established the WiFi connection, repeat the above procedure to Diagnose Connection Problems. Finally, if still unseccessful, connect directly to your wireless router using an ethernet cable from one of the four RJ-45 LAN ports on the router to the netbook's 10/100 ethernet RJ-45 port on its left side. A LAN connection icon should now show in the bottom right of the Desktop's Toolbar. Hovering the mouse cursor over it shows the Local Area Connection pop-up with Speed and Status. If Status is connected, then open Internet Explorer again and use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool to check connectivity to the internet. If still unresolved, the next step would be to log into the router to check its WAN status and depending on the results, you may have to contact your Internet Service Provider.

Cant access internet through wireless network.

How do you know your notebook is connected to your wifi AP? Did you try pinging the gateway? If not, open your command window & type "ping 192.168.0.1" (put in your own gateway address.) If you get replies, then ping something outside of your network: "ping 4.2.2.2" (this is a verizon dns server). If you get replies, then "ping yahoo.com". If it does not fail at any of the above steps, you don't have a connectivity problem. If you fail any of the above, then report back & we'll continue the troubleshooting.

Acer aspire 7520 cant connect to LAN ( local only)

Hardwired to modem or router?
Router = check connection to router
(had a router die on me last fall - not AC supply)
IP should be 192.168.1.xx or 192.168.2.xx
(is standard)
Reset Router = reset hole on back - hold for 10 sec
Modem= same directions as router
(most modems work like single port routers)
(do reset of cable modem, I've had that prob too)
Using PPOE connection = check log on info
Took most of my home network apart to find it was the modem causing the problem - should've started there.

I have an Acer aspire one netbook and the wifi connects with my router no problem, but when i try to type in any website, it says: the adress is not valid. I know it is not my router or my internet...

Open network connections and see if the internet connection is enabled. If not, right click and choose enable. If this is the first time you've tried connecting to internet with Acer, then you can run through the internet connection wizard to set things up.

Wifi connectin problem

is your wireless router set to broadcast itself?
you should be able to double-click the small, single computer icon in the lower right corner and have at least one wireless network (yours) to connect to. once you click it to connect, it may require a key sequence, if it is set up for it (passcode). Also, try clicking "Start", right-click "Computer", choose "Properties", "hardware" tab, and "Device Manager". Check to see if your wireless network card has a driver problem (yellow exclamation point". Can you access the network with your netbook connected to the router via a cable? If you can, and have internet access, go to the Acer Support site and download the latest wireless card drivers and install them. see if this helps. Good luck!

Connectivity problem

it is still trying to connect via your modem, go to control panel>network connection, and you will see your modem dialup connection, right click and select dissable if required.

next open up internet explorer, go to tools>internet options, then click on connections tab, then half way down select 'never dial a connection'.

Click apply>ok, then close internet explorer, open it up again and wait a few seconds and it will connect via your router(asuming that it is correctly set up).

If no page appears then click refresh a few times.
