Have you tried updating the BIOS? It could just be a bad setting causing the CPU to be clocked at the wrong speed as well.

Problem with AMD 2.1GHz Phenom X3 Tri-Core 8450 AM2+ 3.5MB HD8450WCJ3BGH

Your motherboard might finally need replacement. If the temperature sensors aren't working and the motherboard isn't controlling the CPU fan, that shows you might have some problems with it. Did you try going into BIOS Setup and checking your settings? Check the cooling settings. Many motherboards have aggressive CPU temp monitoring as well, so if the CPU gets hot, the PC will shut down.

Replaced heatsink and cpu temperature sensor is incorrectly high

When it crashes, does it happen at the same spot? Does it get into the OS or are you looking at a hardware monitor in the BIOS to get your temp. Was the heatsink replaced because it was doing the same thing before? I'm not sure overheating is the cause since 158F is only 70C and that's not hot enough to cause a shutdown. T-Max on the almost all CPUs is 100C.

I got a Compaq Presario SR1903wm .with red blinking light !!! power's up for about 20 seconds then shuts off !! doesnt even start up in Bios !! Dont know what to do !! should i replace the power supply...

check the ram memory ..if this shows up OK (verify it in another computer with the same specifications ) ...than the CPU is to blame ..open it up ..and remove for a few seconds the Bios battery to see if you messed up with the temperature settings ..This will reset to factory settings ..and if there is teh case with temperature limits too low set ..than it will power up after ..if it is the CPU you will have to change it

Motherboard problem?

hi- i would say that it is a heat issue. check the temps of the cpu-also check some of the bios settings, my asrock board has some bios settings that are for safe overclocking-like bumping up voltage. set these to default.-one is called vccm, then vlink, then over vcore. vccm set-to high- vlink set to normal- over vcore -disable. but do check the cpu and if you have some heat sink compound- take the heatsink off and reinstall it with the new compound. make sure you clean the old compound off. if you need more help-reply good luck!

Compaq Presario c500 is quitting when hot

nope ...the problem might be from bios...it has a setting to power of when it gets to a certain temperature ...(CPU temp limit ) just ask for someone whom knows to set it ...and will be fine ...the other issue it might be the fail of your cpu cooler...and the temp exceeds normal values and its shutting down as a protection...when it gets to the maximum temp allowed. .So! just check first if it has a limmit around 70C or so ...and remove the limitation from bios...CPU settings..I dont know exactly cause there are a lot of bios variations...but when you will see it you wil know what to do .....good luck!

Computer turns on, but does not boot to XP

Generally, fans are controlled by heat readings...something to check is the operating temperature that is shown in your BIOS when you boot up...(access your BIOS by tapping on the delete key, or F2 key while booting)..if it goes over 70C real quick then there is a CPU heat dissipation problem, which would cause the fan to run like this i think that it is more of an issue that your CPU died...has your machine taken any kind of hit or fall that might have loosened things?...or perhaps the heat sink compound between the heatsink and CPU failed.....
but it also could be a dead MB

Fan sound is very high

Check the speed of the fan in the BIOS and set it lower, although 58-63c is alright for a CPU (P4 is rated to go up to 70c) you might want to make sure that you have good air flow in your case to make sure the CPU doesn't overheat. Usually you can find the fan control in the Advanced section of the BIOS. You'll also want to check the specs of the fan that you have installed as that will tell you how loud it's supposed to be. You might have to get another fan with lower decibels if you want it to be quieter.
